It was useful and inspiring to see a list of writing-related jobs, as a reminder that there's more to a literate career than being a starving artist. However, I didn't find the information under the job listings to be that useful. Information on requirements and contacts was particularly vague and superficial (for job X, look in the classified for listings of job X openings). I think there must be better sources of information on these jobs elsewhere -- look further than this book.

A horrible book. I would give it 1/2 star if I could. Fluffy, over-generalized, miminal information. If Shelly Field is really such a well-known career consultnat, she could have done better. I am finding that books too easily get 5 star ratings on amazon.com, because this is the second one i've bought that has not turned out to be good.

This book is so jammed pack full of great information I don't know where to start. I've always wanted to write and found this book. It is great! It gave me so many ideas about what I could do, offered all the information about each opportunity....and then unlike many other books, it actually gave tips for getting the great jobs. I had a couple questions, went to Shelly's website and she answered them via e-mail. I have many of Field's books. I love the way she formats them. It makes it easy to find just what you're looking for. It is pretty evident to me why she is one of the leading career consultants in the country. I'm so excited. I just received my first check for a freelance writing assignment and can't wait to see my byline. Thanks Shelly. You wrote a great book for people interested in writing as a career or as a sideline. I wish I could give it 100 stars.

This book is now about 10 years old but the information is still good. Shelly Field gives a thorough list of 100 jobs for Writers and Artists that is complete and very informative. Each job is broken down into what each job consists of (job description), educational requirements, advancement opportunities, tips, and salary info. I had not thought of many of the possibilities that are listed and you may not have either. She is very "matter of fact" about each job while many books of this type are "selling" you on the job market; this one tells you how it really is. She doesn't discourage you, but she is frank about job growth, etc.
Some of the information, of course, is a bit out of date but generally is still viable and valuable.
This book would be most useful for someone considering a career in creative disciplines. This book is a great place to start.

If you're looking for a career in the writing field (or the artist area) this is the one to get. It is full of great information, formated so everything is easy to find. Ms. Field really knows her stuff. I read her bio and she has written more than 25 career books. I heard her on the radio speaking about various career oriented subjects and stress management. She is great! If you ever have a question, all you have to do is go to her web site... and she answers it by e-mail. I agree with the other reviewer Pat. This is a great book. I too, would give it 100 stars plus if I could. I am looking for a full time career in the writing field, but am interested in free-lance until then. Field's book game me all the options. If you could only get one book as a resource this is the one to get.

I think this is one of the best artist books I've ever read.
