Simple Truths: Yes. Surprising Insights: No.,
By kuno@aol.com (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 100 Best Ways to Meet People, The (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is not bad, but it's not great, not by a long shot. The advice in the book is, by the author's own admission, a lot of common sense. I kept digging for those great insights into meeting people but I didn't find any that really grabbed me. The book consists of nearly blank pages with one "simple truth" or "surprising insight" to a page. I wish I could say that I found myself going "Wow!" or "Aha!" but that didn't happen once. Instead I found myself wondering if you could fit all these not-terribly-brilliant insights onto a pack of cigarettes. Although the author does elaborate on some of his suggestions, most of them are rather pithy and self-apparent. There seems to be a trend for this kind of thing-short pithy sayings or expressions-but usually they give some pause for reflection. The only thing that this book got me reflecting about was how it got published. That said, if you are really socially inept-and aren't we all sometimes-this book might help but don't expect it to change your social life overnight.

Very Helpful!,

This book is not gimmicky, nor does it give flirtatious suggestions. Because of its brevity, you can find quick ideas. I especially love #5 Never do anything at home that you can do in a park. I know that one works; that is how I met my husband! I love this book as gifts for divorces, people new in town, kids off to college. It's amazing how many concepts in this little book have big messages for so many age groups. My niece likes to add names of people and places to the pages to help her carry out the activity. What a great format. Inexpensive, too.

This review is from: 100 Best Ways to Meet People, The (Mass Market Paperback)
What a gift to be able to put in concise form down to earth ways to easily meet people. Whether making new friends or a new love, this book reminds you how simple it can be. I was glad I didn't need to read through lengthy, lecturey pages to get to the point. Out of l00, you are sure to find some that work for you. The intro and end were especially poignant.

It's refreshing to read a book that gets to the point, is user friendly, and is fun. Don't get me wrong; it is not gimmicky or seductive. It is simply intuitive and insightful. I have given this book to many single friends who have appreciated the simplicity, honesty, and understanding that their easy actions can turn their efforts into success.

Although this book has some helpful hints, I believe you would be better off putting your $4 towards a book that goes a little more in depth.

Very useful and to the point!,

As the author of Sexpectations and co-author of How to Succeed With Women I found this book to be useful and easy to apply to relationships. The author did a great job in getting across complex information in a readable fashion. I recommend it highly, and also my own books, if I can be so crass.

Succint reminder,

It is not a wordy book, and gives readers a quick reminder of how to meet people effectively. The principles are readily available in any books about meeting people, but I especially enjoy the bullet format. For $5.00, it is a great deal.

This was a very short book whose ideas could have been summarized in a pamphlet. The ideas are very simple and not overly useful. It didn't inspire me at all and I was really disappointed with the lack of depth. Some of the pages only have three words on them. Save your money!
