One of the best Bible story books we own,
By JL Bell "Jude" (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 100 Bible Stories, 100 Bible Songs (Hardcover)
We received this as a gift and I have since given 2 copies away as gifts because we love it so much. My son (3 years old) just loves the music that goes along with the stories and it gives us a great way to start our day with a devotional - usually over breakfast. It ministers to my heart tremendously too!! Each page contains a synopsis of the Biblical account in preschooler verbage and then also gives a one-sentence summary truth from the passage (observation), an interpretation statement, and an application statement. This is not only a solid Bible study method but the applications are also very theologically sound! Wonderful!!!! (p.s. But don't expect the same rigor of the songs - they are not always theologically sound or biblically accurate but they are fun and memorable - a good aid to help remember each story.)

The best I could find,

I was specifically searching for a kids story bible (as opposed to daily devotional or other genres) to give my kids a first look at all the major stories in the scriptures. This one was the most thorough of those which were not more or less a full version of the entire text (that would be too much for my little ones). It covers most, but not all, of the most important narrative sections of both the Old and New Testaments. I'm sure it's difficult to edit such a book and decide what to include and what to cut, but this was pretty well done and pretty much what I was looking for. They like the CD's as well.

Wonderful Devotional for Children,

This review is from: 100 Bible Stories, 100 Bible Songs (Hardcover)
This book of bible stories, plus a bible song to go along with each one, is going to be a great hit with our large family. I am so impressed with it, that I am planning on giving it as gifts to my grandchildren.
The book is filled with bright, colorful pictures on each page and comes with 2 high quality CD's with 50 songs on each. Many of the songs are traditional and bring to memory a time in my life when I sang them with my six children, who are now grown up with families of their own. The songs on the CD's are sung in children's voices which are sure to hold the attention of young people--toddlers and up. This is a unique book that everyone in the family will use and enjoy. In fact, it would be perfect for Christian "family nights." It would be a wonderful devotional tool and a fun way to introduce your child to bible scripture that will help them store faith and comfort in their hearts for a lifetime. This is the perfect book for parents, grandparents, Sunday school teachers, youth directors, and home school moms. On a scale from one to ten, this would score a perfect 10. I highly recommend it.

Loved the stories, didn't like the songs on the CD,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: 100 Bible Stories, 100 Bible Songs (Hardcover)
I loved reading 100 Bible Stories. The pictures were really cute and colorful and the stories were short. Even though I'm seven, and this is recommended for younger kids, I think kids as young as one, and up to my age would enjoy it. I didn't like the CD though. The music was very babyish and I had to turn it off after only a couple of songs. I was expecting a short song and then a read along story, but was disappointed. Also, each story tells where the bible story is located so I can read the story in my Bible if I want to know more.
I would recommend this book for ages three to four, but older and younger brothers and sisters will probably want to read it too.

Wonderful Bible Story Book for Toddlers,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 100 Bible Stories (Hardcover)
The stories are short and to the point, with a summary and short "verse" they can memorize. For example, for one of the Noah stories they can memorize "When I see a rainbow, I will remember God's promises to me." The pictures are very fun and each story has a song to go with it on the CDs. My kids love listening to the songs over and over again, they're great for the car. I highly recommend this book!

Great way to teach your children,
By Steph "David's Mom" (Rochester Hills, MI) - See all my reviews

If you're looking for a fun way to begin introducing your little one to scripture and application, this is great. I enjoy the songs and the little lessons. My only suggestion for future publications is that the song # be placed as a reference on the story page. As you can imagine, with the large number of songs, if you want to dive into the middle of the book and you don't know the corresponding song number, it's gonna take some effort to find it. I just wrote the #'s in myself so now it's a breeze. The music is energetic and fun and the lessons are well done. Enjoy!

The Best for Toddlers!,

This is absolutely the best bible story devotional for toddlers that I have seen, and I've looked at a lot. I love the application sentences that are short and easy to understand and memorize. The kids LOVE the songs, and can now sing them even when the CD isn't playing, which I love, because they're memorizing biblical truths in song! The pictures are entertaining, and the stories are just the right length for the toddler's attention span (although we usually read 2 or 3 in a sitting). This is DEFINITELY worth buying!

Great Bible with EXCELLENT CD,
This review is from: 100 Bible Stories, 100 Bible Songs (Hardcover)
The Bible stories are good for little ones but the best part is the music CD. My son loves listening to his "Jesus" music all of the time. I don't have any other CD that tops the one that comes with this book.

100 Bible stories 100 Bible songs,
This review is from: 100 Bible Stories, 100 Bible Songs (Hardcover)
The book is hard-cover but has a soft cover feel like a lot of kids books have. The book includes 2 cds that contain 100 songs and each song goes with a story in the book. The book is brightly colored and will catch the attention of any child. Each story (or Bible summary) is short and is good for short attention spans. Under the title of each story, is the title of the song that goes along with it so that you could listen to the song along with reading the story. It also gives the scripture reference that the story is from so that you can easily find it and read the whole story from the Bible. The book and songs are separated into Old and New Testament making it easy to pick which one you want to read/listen with your child.
The stories in the book are very simplistic and good for toddler age. I do, however, think they are too simplistic and tend to not complete a story/illustration fully. An example of this is in the story of Saul. The story goes on to say that "Jesus is the Son of God. People who believe this are called Christians." It says in James 2:19 - "You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that and shudder." (NIV) Obviously, demons aren't Christians, so I think the simplistic nature of the book doesn't fully allow complete definitions/thoughts/ideas to be taught to a child. I think this is where the story's scripture references (and parental knowledge of the Bible) will come in handy in "Training up a child in the way that he should go." If you want your child to learn about the 10 commandments, don't look to this book. It tells briefly how the commandments came about but it doesn't list the commandments at all. Again, the scripture reference comes in handy. I didn't run across glaring inaccuracies in the book EXCEPT Moses. In the story about the promised land, it says that Moses went up to Mount Nebo and was happy as the Israelites entered the promised land. However, this is NOT biblically accurate. The scripture reference for this story is Deuteronomy 34 and in this chapter, it says Moses went up to Mount Nebo and died and God buried him there. In verse 8 it says, "The Israelites grieved for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days until the time of weeping and mourning was over." (NIV) If you continue reading into Joshua 1 verses 1 and 2 it says, "After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son on Nun, Moses' aide: Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them" (NIV) I have just 1 more thing to point out. Don't expect that this book will mesh exactly with how you interpret scripture. Different denominations of churches interpret things in different ways. An example of this is baptism. Two statements made in the book are: "Baptism shows the world that we love Jesus" and "When I am baptized, God will be pleased". I won't get into a theological discussion on this except to say, I don't agree with those statements but no book will be able to cater to all beliefs. Overall, this is a good introduction to the Bible for kids but don't let it be the only source for teaching your child about God. Make use of the scripture references listed and read the whole passage to your child.

Good idea - not a good execution,

I bought this book to use in conjuntion with a sunday school lesson that we teach for 3-4 year olds. The index does not allow you to figure out which of the songs relate to a particular bible story.
My main gripe - the CD's were packaged in vinyl envelopes on the inside of the front and back covers of the book. The CD's has chemically reacted to the vinyl and would not play ont he CD player. After some cleaning I was able to remove some of the haze but not completely. Overall - a flop! |
