4.0 out of 5 stars Good overview of his career
Alain Souchon
"100 Chansons"
(EMI-France, 2007)
--------------------------------------
This 5-CD set is a good overview of the career of French pop songwriter Alain Souchon, with tracks from his 1974 debut, all the way through his more modern work in 2005-07. The folk-tinged rock of the 'Seventies gives way to synthy 1980s new wave (which is dreadful)...

3.0 out of 5 stars Might as well go with a regular best of
Two things: a lot of Alain Souchon can be too much. A lot of filers in this collection. And one HUGE mistake was made, one of his best songs, Le Degout, written as available on CD 2 or 3 is actually not there and replace with a terrible song. So it can be a good bargain but don't expect any revelation from it and make sure you have "Le Degout" somewhere else.

"100 Chansons"

(EMI-France, 2007)

--------------------------------------

This 5-CD set is a good overview of the career of French pop songwriter Alain Souchon, with tracks from his 1974 debut, all the way through his more modern work in 2005-07. The folk-tinged rock of the 'Seventies gives way to synthy 1980s new wave (which is dreadful) and then to his more subtle, more contemplative work in the 1990s and afterwards. This collection is well-packaged, at least for those of us who don't want a lot of shelf space eaten up by CDs: the five slim-lined discs fit into a modest cardboard shell that take up scarcely more space than a standard 2-CD set. It includes almost all the songs on two of his best later albums -- 1993's "C'est Deja Ca" and 1999's "Au Ras Des Paquerettes" -- and while you could just track those down alone, it is nice getting the full historical perspective. Worth picking up if you are curious about this artist. (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue Guide To World Music)
