The genealogy trees are very enlightening to the understanding of the myths (there are big wide ones and small ones in each chapter), the pictures of related art are high quality and beautifuly printed, and the characters are insightfully described even though not that deeply. With one or two pages for each character, the author was able to provide a basic yet fulfilling understanding of the greek divinities and their roman equivalents. Still, the book has a few errors like mispells and one or another graphic inconsistencies, but I didn't mind. The paintings and genealogy trees are awesome!

I bought this book as a gift for a 13 year old girl. It was her mother's recommendation and we were not sure if it would be ideal for a girl of that age but it was right on the mark. Great for students interested in mythology and a wonderful value.

This work is an excellent introduction to the basic stories of classical, especially Greek, mythology. The artwork is amazing, and the author includes a geneaology chart on every page.

Each character is described regarding his or her (or its) major mythological stories and theological concerns (things the figure is "god of").

This is only meant to be an introduction, a concise reference. In this respect, it exceeds amazingly.

As the book carries on, Day often leaves much of his geneaologies to be assumed, and in this sense they are not always best for reference. The book lacks a quailty introduction, which should more thoroughly elucidate the religious culture of the ancient world (which is reference within the work, assuming that the reader is familiar with sacrifice and cult worship).

I have been studying Greek Mythology for many years and I am always looking for new books on the subject. I found this book to be very informative and accurate. It is also very easy to follow for those just learning about the subject. Also it was great that it has many of the new updates about Greek Mythology. New facts that have recently been discovered were included in this book. I think this is a must have book for long time Mythology fans as well as beginners.

I was searching for a book like this. I am glad I read the reviews on this first. Thanks Amazon for that. It is an awesome book. I wanted to read about the gods, and goddesses. It couldn't put it down, the stories are great, and colored pictures too.

My eleven year old daughter has taken an interest in Greek mythology and has really enjoyed this encyclopedia of short stories about the different gods and goddesses. It is a little above her reading level but she is able to make out most of the stories with a little help. The illustrations are beautiful and it is definitely something she can grow with. It's "grown up" enough to hold her interest, but not too over her head that it frustrates.

This book is perfect for someone looking to get a crash course in mythological characters. Some prior basic knowledge of Greek mythology is suggested though. If you have little to no knowledge on the subject, you will still find this book very useful. It covers every Greek mythological character I can think of from the Illiad to the Odyssey and even shows the Roman conversion of some of these gods.

Highly recommend for anyone interested in brief biographies on these figures. You won't find every single little detail but you'll find enough to get you started on your research.

Detailed descriptions of all the Greek & Roman Gods; Goddesses; The Titans; Muses etc and records of the role they played in Classical Mythology. The use of ancient pottery and paintings by the Old Masters as illustrations is a nice touch allowing the reader to match the names with the faces as viewed by history throughout the Ages.

I was hoping for a bit more from this book but it did not provide. This book only covers the very basics of the most common Greek Gods, Goddesses, and heroes. The family tree for each mythological character was interesting but a little bit confusing. Also some of the post popular myths and ideas where not even addressed. This book would be a good place to start for someone who is completely new to Greek mythology, but I was looking for something a bit more comprehensive than this. I'm still giving it four stars however because it is a good quick reference book.
