3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad
Not a bad song. But the only reason I "bought" it was because it was free. At this point, I don't think it'll inspire me to purchase the rest of the album. But I do like this song. Nice retro sound.

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings are bringing soul back in their joyous "100 Days,100 Nights." Jones has the same backing band as the infamously troubled Amy Winehouse- albeit without the attendant baggage.

"100 Days,100 Nights" is Southern-fried soul. It has a driving rhythm, seducing the listener. Jones' passionate vocals show that she's worthy of being the Queen of Soul, taking up the mantle of Aretha Franklin or Patti Labelle. It's delicious, like jambalaya with cornbread. There's also jazzy sophistication. One can imagine Jones belting out her songs at the Apollo. "100 Days,100 Nights" leaves the listener hungry for more. 100 Days,100 Nights... takes stamina and endurance. It's worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshingly Retro, August 21, 2008

This is the only item of any kind that I've ever gotten for free that was worth money. I bought an album after listening to this song because I wanted to pay for "100 Days, 100 Nights". The album was great too, and now I'll just have to buy another. This is by far my most healthy addiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good sound from a group I've never heard of, November 26, 2007

I admit when Amazon sent me the e-mail saying that I can get this for free, I was worried, because usually anything 'free' usually isn't that good. However, I was surprised at how good Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings are. She, being the lead singer, has a pleasant voice, very melodic with an bit of poetic spin in it. The song to me was sort of something between jazz and R&B, but resulting in the best of both worlds, since R&B originated from jazz in the first place.

After this song, I'm going to try out the other songs on the Album (after I take care of my holiday shopping), and if I like them, I'll try out anything else Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings has done since they were formed.

Have seen Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings do "100 Days/100 Nights" on YouTube--Sharon Jones should win Female Vocalist of the year, song should win Song of the Year, and the band is just plain phenomenal-- soul/rhythm n blues has come back to life. Rare that you hear music this good anymore--beats anything you hear on the radio these days.

I also got the email for the free MP3s and, man, am I glad. This track is real music that brings back the days of real soul music. I sampled all the tracks on this album, purchased it, and am listening to it all the time now. You won't regret getting this free track and you won't regret buying the whole album.

Great songs and great voice of Sharon Jones. I love the 100 days and 100 nights.... I sing it for hours after hearing it. It is catchy like that. The sound quality of the CD is just adequate. I would like a little improvement on the sound.

4.0 out of 5 stars Groovy, baby, February 1, 2009

I can't believe this song was available for free, because it's so good! When I first heard it, I thought that Sharon had to be a rediscovered band from the 60's whose tracks had been re-released. She has a powerful voice that demands your attention. She is here to prove that, yes, Virginia, there is a life after 50, and it can be a groovin' one if you want it to be. I think I might buy the whole album. My only complaint about this song is that I don't like the way it slows down at the end, but the musical technique fits the lyrics, so I can't complain too much.

I heard Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings sing this song on Letterman and was transfixed. What wonderful, soulful rhythms. I hadn't considered myself to like "this kind of music" before I heard this song, but this song just made me want to dance.

5.0 out of 5 stars 60's soul is back, September 18, 2008
By
This review is from: 100 Days, 100 Nights (MP3 Download)
With the sound and recording techniques and the strong voice of sharon jones the 60's motown feel is back. I didn't live through that time but spent my very young youth with no siblings and old records for company so musically almost feel of that time and i have to say sharon jones hit the nail on the head. Where a song like "rehab" by amy whinehous (backed by the dap kings, the same band that backs jones here) uses the instrumentation and "wall of sound" technique it doesn't grasp that old feel. This sounds like Sharon Jones could have been in the original motown lineup yet (for me atleast) is refreshing and new in it's presentation .
At the moment this is a free download (and has been for a while) so you have nothing to lose.
