I like the fact that the daily devotions aren't too long and drawn out. You can read the scripture, meditation thought, or the suggestion for talking to the Lord and will have something to think about/chew on until you are able to sit down and do all three together. I like the fact that though the scriptures are random...they seems to be what I need to read/hear that day. God is Good!!!

I love journaling, and this is a very simple but practical book to combine prayer, writing, worship and meditation. I recommend this for anyone who wants a simple devotional that incorporates writing. I am adding this as part of my daily devotions. Excellent practical book!

For those who are looking for a way to be closer to God, this is a good place to start. This book has a good selection of verses(one verse per day) that really make you think about the daily topic. And help you get closer to the lord one verse/day at a time.

I love the idea of a prayer journal but there were several things that really turned me off.

The first was that it was in the New International version of the Bible. The King James Version has such a beautiful flow to it and it makes the words come to life. The NIV just turns me off.
The second problem was that it wasn't what I was taught Prayer is. There is a anachronism JOY and it stands for Jesus First, Others Second and Yourself last. This prayer journal was all about what I would consider ME. Prayer comes so much easier when we pray and thank Jesus for his Love gift of his life for my life. Then when I pray about others who need prayer then I know I am doing what God and Jesus wants from me and then when I do those two things I have the right to ask God for my needs. Which by that time seem very small and insignificant.
Maybe because I am a Messianic Jew that is how I feel but I love praying with JOY

I began at the beginning of the year and tried to at least write down the verse of the day in my journal. Sometimes I answered the given question, usually one that looked inwardly to solve practical spiritual issues. My purpose, which was the author's purpose as well, was to get into the practice of looking at God's Word everyday. The previous year, I had tried the Bible-in-a-year plan. This year I wanted something different and it fulfilled that need. However, the content was too simple, and the questions tended to be off-topic from the Scripture or leading in a different direction than the Scripture passage was going. I wasn't too upset because I could journal my thoughts about what I actually read in the entire passage instead of just the one verse that was pulled out. There was at least one repeat verse/question/day. There are so many verses that could be used, but mostly ones that people who sometimes go to church may be more familiar with. A serious student of Scripture may not get much out of it, but in my season of life, it worked for the purpose intended.

This is a great book if you've always wanted to journal your spiritual journey but didn't know where, or how, to begin. You're given a Scripture, a meditation thought and a suggestion or question to begin writing. As someone that journals almost daily, and have been doing it for years, these daily Scriptures, mediations and writing suggestions were a nice change and thought provoking. I loved the simplicity of it.

For someone starting or hoping to start a writing or devotional habit this is a great first study. The prompts help you to focus your journaling effort and the scripture gives food for thought and spiritual guidance
