Silva Screen Strikes Again,
By
This review is from: 100 Greatest TV Themes 2 (Audio CD)
Another collection of lackluster performances and don't-sound-alikes from Silva Screen records, who seem to produce nothing but collections of lackluster performances and don't-sound-alike themes from film and TV. The extra kick in the teeth in this set is that some of the themes were included in Silva Screen's volume 1. But if you bought that and still are considering volume 2, you won't care.

Awful remakes of TV themes. No wonder they don't have tracks to listen to on the Amazon website. Another terrible CD from a hit-and-run company.

As stated by other reviews here -- these are NOT the original themes, but simply remakes -- and many are VERY POOR remakes at that. Preview tracks before purchase, and listen carefully. If you are looking for the original theme songs, look elsewhere. If, for whatever your reasons, you want something that "reminds you" of these TV them songs... I guess this is the collection for you. Buyer beware!

Like many others have written, these are not the original themes, but only remakes. This is especially disappointing for themes with vocals such as the 'Cheers' theme that doesn't even attempt to reproduce the vocals. After realizing my error, I purged these crap songs from my cloud drive and computer. If I could get my money back, I would.

Not as bad as they say,

I didn't get the whole album because I wasn't that interested in most of the tv shows on it, but I did pick and choose and I have to say that most of the themes are not as bad as many reviews make them sound. I would listen to the clip first, but there were only one or two out of 10 that I didn't approve of. I say give it a listen, you may end up liking it.

Not as bad as some of the reviewers state,

OK, so these TV themes are NOT the original versions, but many (not all) are very close and would I defy even the most skilled audiophile to tell the difference. The sound quality of these reproductions (Police Squad, Hawaii 5-0, and Mission Impossible all come to mind) is quite good for the majority of the selections - much better the actual TV themes offered on the Tee Vee Promotions albums (Vol 1 & 2). If you're a purist, then you better stick with the grainy, non-equalized sound quality of the originals found on the Tee Vee Promotions albums, but if you want some decent "remastered" versions of TV's most popular theme songs, then "100 Greatest TV Themes" might be for you.Use Amazon's preview feature to see for yourself which you like best.

Good Collection,

I don't know if some of the other reviewers woke up on the wrong side of the bed when they panned this, or just wanted the nostalgic and crummy/tinny sound of the old TV show themes as originally presented back in the day, but this is a very good collection and most of the performances sterling. I was raised on TV and paid A LOT of attention to TV show themes as a kid and young adult. If these are All covers, I'd have to see proof, because some of the "nuances" in these recordings are very, very similar to the originals. Recording techniques are difficult to duplicate in a performance even if you have all of the correct notes. For example, "Big Valley" has a big soundstage ambience, while "Slap Maxwell" has the intimate small combo recording sound just like the original recording. I'm sorry, but someone went to a lot of trouble for most of these recordings if they are in fact "re-recordings". Very impressive sound, no matter what you think or desire otherwise. Just a reminder...I have sometimes also been decepted when hearing better mixes of older recordings. Sometimes those don't sound "right" even though I know I'm hearing the original recording remastered. The improvements sometimes strip away the former audio artifacts like compression, or "mono" mixed sounds, and the "better" remix almost sounds as if it were a "cover". Keep this in mind. If I'm worng on this particular collection, and I may very well be, I still stand by the fact many of these sound very close to the original and are very good productions...well arranged and performed.

Could listen all night to this type of music,
This review is from: 100 Greatest Tv Themes Volume 2 (MP3 Download)
This is a great album for those people who love a full symphony orchestra sound. The choice of music is excellent and easy to listen too, especially for those people who want to relax and work at the same time, or just surf the web.
