5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Buy December 16, 2010
Format:Audio CD
This in an overwhelming 5 CD release with 100 of the best songs recordings done by the Everly Brothers during the late 1950's throughout the 1960's. Incredible that you can get so much good music at such a low price.

Obviously it is a very stripped-down release with no booklet and no information about the songs and their origin. If you're interested in finding out the songs, you'll need to do some research yourself. What you have here is simple the music, which really sounds great. I have compared some of the songs with the same from couple of "Collector's Choice" albums that I have. My conclusion is that I'm not able top tell any difference. They sound like the exact same masterings.

There is no strict chronological order, but the oldest tracks ( Cadence ) are found on CD1 while the most recent tracks are on CD5.

Most of their albums are represented with 3-6 tracks, and the selections are really well chosen. The large majority of their most important releases from the period are included here. Quite a few rarities have also found their way to the collection; I do believem though, that they all have been previously released.

The music documents nicely that the brothers were among the most influential acts of the late 1950's and that they thoughout the 1960 came up with great music that matched bands like the Monkees, the Hollies or the Searchers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible set, unbelievable price March 5, 2011
By Hinch
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
When I saw the great price of this set, I had to research to make sure it is the actual Everly Brothers recordings, and not recordings by sound-a-likes. My research told me, it is indeed the real thing. What an unbelievable price, for so many songs.

This set covers their recordings from 1957 through 1969. Prior to these recordings, the Everly Brothers had released one single "Keep A'Lovin Me" in 1956, on the Columbia label. From 1957 to 1969, The Everly Brothers released 16 albums and almost 50 singles. Their first two albums, and twelve of their singles, were on the Cadence label. Their remaining albums and singles through '69 were on the Warner Brothers label. With the exception of their second album, SONGS OUR DADDY TAUGHT US from 1959, CHRISTMAS WITH THE EVERLY BROTHERS from 1962, and their final Warner Brothers album ROOTS from 1968, every album is represented here. There are at least two tracks from each album. Most of their hit singles, including many b-sides, are also included in this collection.

The tracks are not in strict chronological order, but each disc contains songs from certain years. CD1 begins with their first Cadence single "Bye Bye Love" from 1957 and covers the years thru 1960. CD2 covers '60 and '61, and one song from '58. CD3 - '61 and '62 and one track from '69. Three tracks are from the years '77, '85 and '05. I assume they are rare tracks which were not released until those years. CD4 is '62 thru '65 and CD5 is '64 thru '67 and two songs from '63.

This set is a real treat for me, because there are many tracks I've never heard before. There's no need to say much about the quality of the music. If you've heard The Everly Brothers, you already know how good they are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Teriffic collection--terrific bargain! January 24, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
The previous reviewer hit the nail on the head. A huge, great-sounding collection with many worthwhile songs which never make it onto smaller Everly Brothers anthologies. The packaging is sturdy, but don't expect any useful discographical information or insightful liner notes on these "100 Hits" collections. However, that information is easily found elsewhere. An incredible value!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great low-budget Compilation May 3, 2011
By Ulises
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
The Everly Bros is the best vocal duo ever in rock and roll history, above Lennon-McCartney, Wilson Bros, Simon and Garfunkel and others. This is a very comprehensive compilation of their hits from 1957 to late 60's. It is true that information in booklet is no big-deal but the main thing is the music itself. I don't buy a record mainly for a booklet. The sound is great, clear and these are original versions. So, if you're fan of 50's rock and roll and want to know and listen more of the Everlys, don't think twice and buy it. You get a lot of music for a great price.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality November 17, 2012
By T. N.
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Since I made this purchase based on the 5-star reviews here, I think I should put a word of caution for others. The bottom line is that you get what you pay for. The whole set sounds like it was ripped directly from old vinyls instead of being made from master records. I should have known better from the too-good-to-be-true price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the Everly's June 28, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I'm from this era so this brings back fond memories from high school. I wasn't aware of half the body of work they produced in later years. This collection is just wonderful. Everyone will love it as much as I did. Great bargain.

I’m shocked and very sad to discover that Phil Everly passed away yesterday. He went before his time! The Everly Brothers made some excellent music in their time and I dare say that their songs and ballads remain some of the finest I’ve ever heard! Indeed, “Rolling Stone labeled the Everly Brothers ‘the most important vocal duo in rock,’ having influenced the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel and many other acts.” Phil was an excellent musician and performer and together with his brother Don they released such hits as “Bye Bye Love;” “Wake Up Little Susie;" the poignant classic “When Will I Be Loved” and the excellent “All I Have to Do Is Dream.”

You just can’t go wrong with this comprehensive four CD box set of tunes by The Everly Brothers. We get their classics including “All I Have to Do Is Dream” as I mentioned above and there are somewhat lesser known gems here, too. It’s hard for me to say I actually have a favorite song here—this music is all THAT good!

I highly recommend this four CD box set by The Everly Brothers, Phil and Don who survives his brother Phil. This is perfect for their fans and even newcomers to their artistry will be hooked by the time they finish listening to these emotive songs that Phil and Don Everly delivered without ever letting go of a single superfluous note! What incredible music this is! Phil Everly will be sorely missed.

I'm not an Everly Brothers expert; but, they sound like the original hits, not some album recorded in later years and the price was a bargain.
