And you use your own, fresh water (a dash of fresh lemon juice in the water is great).

They work, but only after I wedged in something on top of the cartridge, so that it would puncture the seal and fill the bottle.

We use a lot of these in place of buying club soda in plastic bottles and these chargers are a great value.

I was buying the Whip-It brand chargers from Amazon before the price went up, and then decided to try these.

With the shipping, of course, these are about 51 dollars for 100, or 51 cents/cartridge, so they're cheaper than I was paying before. They come as 10 boxes of 10, which is easier to deal with than I was expecting (I was thinking it was a box of 100).

It seems to me that they're different from the Whip-It chargers, but I can't put my finger on exactly how. Is it possible that there's less gas in these? That seems unlikely. Or different impurities that impart a different flavor?

(I have no sense at the moment of one being "better" or "worse" than the other at the moment. They both work fine. I'm just trying to figure this out.)

These are made in Hungary, FWIW. They are 8g cartridges. (The Whip-Its are made in Taiwan, also 8g, though I'm guessing all for soda chargers are.) Looking at the boxes, there's a lot more information on these, which makes me like them better, such as:
Carbon Dioxide Gas 99.95% min
Air (Atmospheric) trace
Water Content <100ppm
Triple Filtered <40 microns
Gas Pressure @70F 738psi
and
"The CO2 gas used in this product is natural and does not contain any additives."
There's no comparable information on the Whip-it box.

So, while I am still largely in ignorance of what makes a good charger cartridge, I like these better than the Whip-Its I was buying before for the greater information (and apparent goodness).

Update, September 2010: I have reordered and received the same product as the first time. Just want to mention this after reading another review. Yes, the boxes are taped shut, presumably for shipping.

I compared these soda chargers side by side with Isi brand chargers. I could not detect a discernable difference between them. So these chargers win on price and value. Why pay more?

re: clarification regarding of substitution of cartridges

folks,

i read a few negative reviews here, from the over-1000 reviews posted at amazon, about this company. they have a 97% positive rating but i was troubled about some reviews discussing how other cartridges being substituted for the Leland Mr Fizz, so wanted to know what to expect if i ordered these.

so i called the seller, Redrock Distributing, and spoke with John (phone:1-877-245-2534). i asked him why folks had said these things.

he was very open and responsive. he said that all cartridges he sells are originally packaged under the Mr Fizz label. he said that all Leland cartridges were made in Hungary by one single company for Leland.

from them he gets different box sizes: some hold ten cartridges per box, others less. at times, to fill an order quickly and not have customers waiting for a backorder, when he runs out of one size, he cracks open the smaller boxes and adds individual cartridges to satisfy the order.

he made it very clear that he never substitutes another brand. i believed what he said. he appeared very knowledgeable and was willing to share insider info, like the names of the only four international makers of C02 soda cartridges, etc.

he said that he would personally love to address the reasons for this confusion, but amazon doesn't allow sellers to respond here within this forum's format.

he added that he always tries to satisfy every customer and make them happy.

i felt comfortable with his answers so ordered three hundred cartridges.

the box arrived within just a few days, and was exactly as he describe: they are all Leland Mr. Fizz.

I recently ordered 100 Leland Soda Chargers from Redrock Distributing (Product Features: 10 boxes of 10 8 gram Chargers; Triple Filtered 99.95% pure CO2) but am dismayed to find I've been sent 1 *OPENED AND RETAPED* box of 10 Leland Mr. Fizz Seltzer Chargers (as pictured) and 30 boxes of "3 CO2 Cartridges".

The print on the front of these generic boxes is:
*Universal Fit
*8 Gram Charge
*Safety Weld Closure
*Food & Beverage Quality

This is NOT what I ordered. These generic cartridges may well be just as good as the Leland but if there will be product substituted, this should be clearly stated on their page. Not only did they Falsely Advertise their product, I suspect they also filled the one Leland Mr. Fizz Charger box with the generic cartridges. Why else would the original seal have been broken, and then resealed with scotch tape?

I will be lodging a formal complaint with Amazon.

*I will add photos to the customer photo section.

Do NOT order these from Redrock Distributing. As others have noted, you'll receive one box of "legitimate" Leland chargers and an bunch of boxes of unbranded chargers (that aren't as pure as the Leland chargers are). You'll also receive a photocopied, handwritten note saying that the Leland cartridges are temporarily shipping without the Leland name. This is utterly false. I ordered Leland chargers from a different distributor (not on Amazon) and received 100 LEGITIMATE Leland chargers. There is no "temporary shortage" of the real Leland chargers, and they don't ship in scotch-taped boxes. The real Leland charger boxes are sealed with a clear square of adhesive, not scotch tape.
I don't know how this company continues to get away with this scam, but they should be reported to Amazon and you shouldn't buy chargers from Redrock Distributing if you want to get what you actually paid for.
