5.0 out of 5 stars creative, intriguing postcards
This collection is an incredible set of postcards. Each card is different, but all of them are visually interesting and range from funny to thoughtful to just plain cool. (My personal favorite: one that is almost completely blank, with a tiny, tiny "PSSST!" printed in the middle.) 2.0 out of 5 stars Not that varied a selection, cheesy aesthetic
Out of the 100, I found three that I'd be willing to spend a stamp on. Definitely investigate Mr. Fletcher's visual style and see if it turns your crank, because the cards are almost all one aesthetic, and I found it cheesy and dated (mid 80's, maybe?). I'm keeping the wooden box (which was a little broken, but easily fixable with gaffer's tape), but I have no use for 97%...

This collection is an incredible set of postcards. Each card is different, but all of them are visually interesting and range from funny to thoughtful to just plain cool. (My personal favorite: one that is almost completely blank, with a tiny, tiny "PSSST!" printed in the middle.) The cards themselves are oversize and made of high quality paper stock, and there is very little pre-printed on the back, just the title of the work and a small Phaidon Press logo, so there's plenty of room to write.

Finally, the price cannot be beat, considering that you can pay the same amount for 20 standard-sized postcards you have to tear out of a perforated book. Here you get 100, and they come in a sturdy plywood storage box. It really is a lovely collection, and I was having so much trouble parting with any of them that I bought another set to keep for myself!

I'm a postcard collector/swapper who regularly sends and receives cards from all corners of the world. This collection of 100 Maverick Postcards is truly a great bargain! It has a great mix of what I consider art cards and cards with text only. I confess that I don't really "get" all of them, but they're still fun to read and send :) Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great cards! Lousy box! Who cares about the box!, September 18, 2006

These cards are GREAT. I had wondered why they were so expensive, but I hadn't realized that they're HUGE: the size of large greeting cards, not the standard postcard size. They're glossy and beautiful and arty, and they come with a sheet that shows thumbnails of all the cards so you don't have to go through every single one when you're trying to think of what you want to send.

The box they came in broke apart as I was taking off the plastic wrapper. It's very cheap, lightweight, rough wood. After one end broke off, the rest of it started falling apart as I was carrying it gently to another room.

But I didn't care about the box, or need it, so I'm still giving five stars: it was the postcards I wanted, and they're great.

I can't recommend this box of postcards more highly. They are large postcards (not the index-card sized ones often found in postcards sets/bokos. The paper is good quality and feels nice to hold. There is truly a card for every occasion. Best of all, the value is astonishing, considering the exceptional overall quality--only 20 cents per card! You could easily pay over a dllar for one of these cards in a museum shop. I can't wait to start mailing these!

This was a really disappointing box of postcards. I would not buy them again. They are nice and big, and they are loose in the box (that is, not bound in a book) but that's about all they have going for them. I only liked about 10 of them, the others being mostly mediocre to "who the heck can i even send this to?" There are much better boxed sets of cards out there. (I much preferred the McSweeney's box.)

I had high hopes for these cards, but was disappointed. Out of the 100 cards, I found maybe 20 that I was excited to mail. The rest I find I've been using for post card clubs when the recipient states "random," "artsy," or "weird" as types of cards they would like to receive. Even so, I always fear they'll be disappointed when they open the mailbox.

The cards are all high quality and are packaged in a handy wooden box.

Out of the 100 postcards, there are about 15-20 that I'm actually interested in. Many of them are just boring. Not as good as I had hoped.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best set of cards I ever bought, August 4, 2011

Alan Fletcher's THE ART OF LOOKING SIDEWAYS is a most wonderful book. In addition to the strikingly beautiful design, the content is very well researched making it a coffee-table book in good taste and excellent flavor. It was a great inspiration for my own book THE ART OF INNOVATION - INTEGRATING CREATIVITY IN ORGANIZATIONS (also available on Amazon)

The Maverick postcards are like a companion to the book. The concepts are great, provocative, humorous, mischievous, pensive, philosophical, atmospheric often with vibrant colors and there is one for every mood and every time of the day.I bought many sets and I have used them in oh so many ways in my own creativity workshops. When at some point I couldn't get any more from Amazon, I panicked because, yes, the icing on the cake: they are such great value for money too!

I didn't feel they matched the 'maverick' description - but they've been great for sending basic sentiments with.
