Book Description

October 1, 2008 8 and up 100 Most...960L (What's this?)
Learn how to face and survive the most dangerous and disastrous things that could possibly happen!

From natural disasters to dangerous weather, from the dangers of getting lost in the wild to fighting off dangerous animals, any child can imagine the special skills they'll need to combat 100 real-life dramas.

Each danger is rated by how likely you are to encounter it, as well as how likely you are to survive; from the unlikely event of being struck by a meteor (with minimal chance of surviving), or being attacked by a bear, to the more likely event of successfully surviving a flood or forest fire.

5.0 out of 5 stars Attention getting and keeping October 25, 2008
Format:Paperback
One of my son's friends bought this book at a Scholastic book fair. I've never seen a large group of boys (all around ages 8-9) so captivated by a book that they sat for an hour paging through it on the playground. My son begged to borrow it and read it non-stop for an entire rainy Saturday. My younger son, who is 6, took it to bed that night and read quite a bit of it too. They grudgingly returned to book today so I'm online to buy a copy for our home.
It offers information on deadly "things" one might encounter in a very adventurous life. In doing so, it provides a lot of of facts about animals, weather phenomenon, geography, etc. It also provide a scale of how likely one is to encounter these things and the rate of survival if encountered. Overall a really good read for grade school boys with inquiring minds.

4.0 out of 5 stars My son LOVES this book! November 15, 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
My son loves this book so much that when his first copy was destroyed by his younger sibling in a terrible sippie-cup related incident, he begged for another copy. We complied, and were happy to make the investment. He carries the book with him in his backpack, or in the car, or wherever, and he is constantly spouting out details he has learned about the "100 Most Dangerous Things". The science in the book is accurate, yet written on a level appropriate for most children to understand. Whatever inspires kids to read is okay by me, so if your little one is intrigued by tsunamis, snakes, and electrical storms, then pick up a copy ASAP!

5.0 out of 5 stars An awesome book for kids (and grown-ups!) May 23, 2009
Format:Paperback
I bought this book for two of my nephews who don't like to read and they have been going back to it off and on since Christmas. Each page has a different disaster, with the likelihood of occurence, survival, and other interesting facts. I flipped through it before I wrapped it up, and found myself reading the whole thing because it is so cool. The pages are very busy, with icons, photos, and text boxes. The boys (8 & 10) love it, so I recommend it for reluctant readers who love disaster.
