Product Description

Red Rock Thermals are perfect for hunting, fishing, skiing, hiking, and beyond. Features of Polypropylene - Expedition weight provides maximum warmth and comfort. - Low thermal conductivity results in more heat being retained for longer lengths of time. - Moves moisture away from the skin in the vapor stage before condensing. - Dries quickly by not absorbing moisture into the fiber itself. - Lightweight fibers result in more warmth from less weight and bulk. - Durable, abrasion-resistant exterior withstands wear and tear. - Soft fleece-like interior provides ultimate comfort against the skin. - Odor, stain, and bacteria resistant. - Color fast construction keeps colors bright and helps the thermal stay looking newer longer. - Will not react to or degrade from ordinary chemicals or sweat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Base Layer, January 1, 2008
By
Scott A. Davis (Denver, Colorado, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I live in Denver and ski/ride regularly each winter -- often in extreme temps. These base layer garments (top and bottom) are the warmest I've ever used. For example, I rode last week in negative 10 to negative 20 degree (F) conditions comfortably. Two words of warning: 1. Don't put them on until you are ready to go outside immediately, or you will burn up. 2. These are not the right base layer for temps above 20 degrees (F), as they are just too hot.

5.0 out of 5 stars super warm, December 24, 2007
By
This review is from: 100% Polypropylene Expedition Weight Long Underwear Crew (Apparel)
easily the warmest base I've had so far. In response to the other reviewer... yes, they are thicker than, say, a duofold poly/wool base layer... these are about the thickness of a lightweight sweatshirt, but they insulate SO MUCH better. I usually wear this as part of a 3-layer system... first layer is a silk-weight Duofold "Varitherm", this Red Rock is the second layer, then the 3rd layer is usually a 1/4 zip fleece. With my jacket on top of that, I've handled air temps as low as -10 and wind chills in the -30 range. regarding the bulkiness... it should fit properly... snug, but not tight (similar to the product photo)... if you're the type who is actually a size "medium", yet wears "large" because you like the baggier fit, then be prepared for a little bulk... but if you get your true size, then you should have plenty of room to wear your favorite XL hoodie over this and be super warm. I plan to buy a few more of these soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent base layer for cold weather motorcycling, December 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My test was a 30 minute motorcycle ride at 35 degrees at speeds up to 60mph with these thermals as a base layer under just street clothes and a leather jacket... the product exceeded my expectations. The polypropylene material partially blocks the wind while retaining the majority of your body heat. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the material is substantially bulkier than it appears in the photos. If your outer clothing is loose then it's no problem but don't be tempted to buy a size larger than normal for you.
