Professional advice on how to deal with pimples,
This review is from: 100 Questions & Answers About Acne (Paperback)
There are so many questions, answers, and articles posted online about acne that it can be overwhelming. And since any random person can post some information online, you can't really know if it's reliable. If you have acne problems and you need a reliable reference, you need this book! It's written by a certified dermatologist with tons of real-world experience.
As the title suggests, this book is divided into 100 questions people from ages 10 to 100 may have about all things acne. Rather than giving a simple yes or no answer, the author discusses everything in depth, since acne causes are not the same from person to person. She also includes a couple of tables, black and white illustrations, and anecdotes of real people's experiences dealing with acne issues. The medical terms are also defined, so the book is readable whether or not you're a doctor. Some of the questions answered in this book include: Does stress affect acne? What are the factors that can make acne worse? Does makeup affect acne? Is acne contagious? Why does my treatment stop working after a while? While I do think this is a useful book for those with pimple problems, the second half of the book devotes too many questions to extremely specific acne treatments (e.g. there are 13 questions devoted to explaining oral isotretinoin). It's good to get some of these answers before paying for an expensive dermatologist to tell you the same thing, but since this book is only answering 100 questions about acne, 13 of them don't need to be about a very specific procedure. Also, the organization of the book could be better. If you have a specific question about your acne, it may take a while to find where it is answered in the book. Overall, the book is still great nonetheless. I only have an occasional breakout, so only the first two chapters were useful for me. For others with severe problems, though, this should be a great resource.
