Book Description

April 17, 2007
The author of 100 Promises to My Baby explores 100 questions children ask, sometimes whimsical, often mystical, and shares some insights on how to foster a child's imagination, creativity, and sense of self.

"As a mom, I realized early on that my children were looking to me for answers," Mallika Chopra writes. "Even before they could speak, they were asking questions, questions about how to interact with the world. And it was my reaction to these questions that began to shape their worldview, their sense of security and trust." Embracing the responsibilities of parenthood as a sacred trust, Mallika shares with other moms and dads her own quest for answers to the questions her children posed as they sought to make sense of their feelings and the world around them.

"Where did I come from? Will you get sick and die? Why do I have to share? Do trees have feelings? Why doesn't anyone want to play with me? What's a bomb?" Whether she is fielding simple queries like "Why do I have to say thank you?" or deeper ones that require much soul searching about her own beliefs, Mallika Chopra draws on history and myth, global wisdom, and rich personal anecdotes to craft responses that expand children's sense of wonder.

This beautifully designed book, with inspirational reflections and stories accompanying the 100 questions, makes an irresistible gift for any mother of young children or any person asking questions about our place and purpose in the universe.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"100 Questions from My Child is a delightful celebration of the wisdom of innocence and a reminder of how important it is to stay in touch with that special time in our lives when possibilities are limitless, and magic is around every corner."

-- Arianna Huffington, author of On Becoming Fearless

"100 Questions from My Child
is a deliciously insightful journey into the way children perceive the adult world, most importantly the world they share with their parents. This book is a treasure."

-- Caroline Myss, author of Entering the Castle and Anatomy of the Spirit

"In our rush-rush world, it's sometimes hard to slow down and match the pace and the natural, wide-eyed wonder of our kids. Chopra shows the harried parent how much power rests in those small moments, and how parents can turn each one into an opportunity to teach empathy, understanding and spiritual growth."

-- Dame Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop

"This book is a sweet and tender way to learn how to listen to your child talk and then help guide them to understanding the complexity of human nature while encouraging them to express their feelings. This book leaves you in awe of the beauty of children's purity and the ability we have as parents to love them and teach them to be true to themselves."

-- Mariel Hemingway, author of Mariel Hemingway's Healthy Living From the Inside Out

"Mallika Chopra has written a beautiful rumination on life's most fundamental questions, especially tailored for the parent wishing to share wisdom with our children. I wish I had had this book when my daughter was younger. I would have read and reread it many times."

-- Marianne Williamson, author of The Gift of Change and A Return to Love

"Wonder is the beginning of wisdom, it is said, and wonder is nowhere keener than in children. Childhood wonder should be honored, respected, encouraged. Mallika Chopra's gentle, loving responses to her children's wonder, so splendidly crafted, will inspire any parent who has heard the infinite  'why' questions -- and which parent hasn't?"

-- Larry Dossey, MD, author of The Extraordinary Healing Power of Ordinary Things

"100 Questions from My Child is both delightful and profound, perfect to share with a child - or the child within yourself!"

--Christiane Northrup, MD, author of Mother-Daughter Wisdom

"In this delightful celebration of childhood, Mallika Chopra has beautifully captured the innocence and beauty of those precious magical moments we share with our children. Mallika makes you feel that everything you dream for your children is possible with this charming book."

--Olivia Newton-John

"Mallika reaches into the heart and soul of the child and brings forth wisdom that only a  child could possess. She shows us what mirrors our children are to us and that they are our greatest teachers if we just open our ears to listen."

--Marla Maples

This review is from: 100 Questions From My Child (Hardcover)
Mallika provides useful, heartwarming, and profound questions from children in this book. As a parent, I often struggle to answer my children questions on spirituality or the reality of today's world -- Mommy, whats a bomb? How can I take care of Mother Earth? Will I meet God? She provides great insights in how to deal with some of these tough questions. I also loved the suggestions of questions to explore with your child. Bravo, Mallika, for another great book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful Book, May 16, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 100 Questions From My Child (Hardcover)
This book answers many questions that I know my grandson will ask. It will be nice to actually have an answer for him that is logical. Again, the paper cover of this hardcover book had black lines on it. It looks like it was bound with a black rubber band or something similar. That was disappointing as it was a gift, but the book is great to read.
