"Cutesy" little read.,

This review is from: 100 Simple Secrets of Healthy People: What Scientists Have Learned and How You Can Use it (100 Simple Secrets) (Paperback)
This is a small book that basically gives 100 recommendations to obtain or maintain health. Most of the advice (even though there's nothing in the way of in-depth) is sound although it's pretty much just common sense. In other words if you are moderately health-conscious I don't think you are in for any great discoveries. One of the more ridiculous suggestions in the book was that you could get the daily amount of water you need simply by the foods you eat and that you shouldn't drink a lot of water. Anyone who is anyone in the fitness or nutrition industry will tell you how important and absolutely vital it is to drink water owing to the facts that it keeps you hydrated, cleans your system, and is the best natural diuretic we have. At times this book comes off dry and monotonous but it's one of those books that's interesting enough and "feel good" enough to keep you reading long enough to get through it without too much distaste.

A Good Thing to Do For Yourself,
By Ed (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 100 Simple Secrets of Healthy People: What Scientists Have Learned and How You Can Use it (100 Simple Secrets) (Paperback)
There are a lot of great ideas for your health - some of them so easy you won't even notice what you're doing. For example, Niven explains research that finds we eat faster than normal when we are listening to fast music, and slower than normal when listening to slow music. Just listening to slower music will help you eat to your hunger and not past it. Good stuff.

This book is wonderful & easy to read, its for everyone that cares about their health. A lot of advice you've probably already heard, some of it is common sense, however there was a lot of advice that I haven't heard so it was really useful. The book follows this format. First the author gives you a health fact, then he backs it up by a short real-life story, then its followed up by a statistic or study. Its pretty straight forward. It would have been helpful if the author had divided the book into sections like eating, health, exercize, etc. Still the table of contents is pretty helpful. I really like it and I highly recommend it. I like this book because the author doesn't try to push any trends. There are a lot of trends in fitness and health and they're usually gone with the blink of an eye. This book keeps it real and simple.

This review is from: 100 Simple Secrets of Healthy People: What Scientists Have Learned and How You Can Use it (100 Simple Secrets) (Paperback)
Having come across Dr. Niven when reading 100 Simple Secrets of Happy People, I became a fan of his writing skills, knowledge in the field and practical application of simple ideas that we often overlook. Having it be somewhat of a calendar in that book. So when I saw this book on the shelf, I thought to myself...hmmm...can it be done again? I wasn't disappointed and you won't be either. It's a fun read that I just finished last night! Enjoy life is the principal and he will tell you how!
