5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent pattern book, January 12, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 100 Traditional Bobbin Lace Patterns (Paperback)
This is a book of 100 patterns for Bucks Point bobbin lace, starting with geometric patterns and moving on to floral patterns. Most of the patterns are straight edgings, with a few insertions, doilies, and edgings with corners. The patterns all have prickings, actual-size photos, and colored diagrams. The text accompanying the pattern is limited to small observations, so the book useful for speakers of any language.

The patterns are arranged by number of pairs used, which is a rough analog for difficultly. They range from 10 pairs + gimp to 88 pairs + several gimp pairs. With two dozen pairs, you'll be able to do anything in the first third of the book.

This book is not an instrucitonal text. It assumes you know how to make a picot, and what a honeycomb stitch is. I would recommend that learners find a copy of The Technique of Bobbin Lace and use that to learn both basic bobbin lace and the beginning techniques of Bucks Point, and then purchase this book as a wealth of practice materials.

5.0 out of 5 stars great intro and reference for Bucks Point, December 27, 2008
This review is from: 100 Traditional Bobbin Lace Patterns (Paperback)
This is a wonderful book of Bucks Point lace. It isn't an introduction to lacemaking, but it includes enough basic material to explain Bucks Point to someone already familiar with other styles. The patterns range from simple ones a novice would enjoy to some that require a lot of experience, huge amounts of time, and 80+ pairs of bobbins. It's a good reference for anyone interested in learning a lovely old style.
