100 Ways to Simplify Your Life,
By
This review is from: 100 Ways to Simplify Your Life (Hardcover)
I was impressed with Joyce Meyer's list, and as much as I'd love to do them all right away (or at least most of them), some of them require me to really think and re-program my thought process. Some of my more favored items from the list are: #1 Do One Thing at a Time, #6 Let Go of What Lies Behind You, #7 Learn How to Say No, #18 Establish Boundaries, #69 Be Realistic in Your Expectations, #87 Beware of Distractions, etc. I could go on and on. Many of the items on the list apply to me in one way or another.
Each section is only a few pages long, and it contains an inspirational saying, and a passage from the Bible. Joyce also uses some examples from life to help the reader understand how to apply the item to their own life. This was a nice and helpful book that will need to remain on my nightstand for quite a while as I try to work through some of the items on the list that are more meaningful to me at this time. These are not outlandish ideas, but rather things that occur regularly in life that when added together or tackled separately (you really don't need to tackle all 100 items at once! I'm going to start with two or three and do them well prior to adding more.) will help to create a simpler life. I would encourage you to pick up this book and read through it yourself.

Old advice repackaged with Scripture by Christian leader,
By Christina Lockstein "Christy's Book Blog" (Oconto Falls, WI USA) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: 100 Ways to Simplify Your Life (Hardcover)
100 Ways to Simplify Your Life by Joyce Meyer is Meyer's newest entry to help Christians find their way. Each of the 100 chapters are short, just a page or so, and easy reading. They are headed by a quote from a usually secular source followed by a verse from Scripture applying to the topic. From cutting down on clutter to throwing away junk mail to saying no to excessive responsibilities, the advice in this book has been given before. There's not a lot new in Meyer's advice, but by combining it with Scripture and personal anecdote, she gives even trifling things a Biblical basis.Meyer speaks with profound confidence on every matter. If you read a lot of self-help books, this won't be of much help, but if you've never picked up one before, this may just be the one to get you jumpstarted on simplifying your life. These short chapters do make for easy reading, and Meyer's solid tips are worthwhile.

Terrific advice,

This review is from: 100 Ways to Simplify Your Life (Hardcover)
In "100 Ways to Simplify Your Life", Joyce Meyer presents 100 bits of terrific unsolicited advice that we all need to receive. Each of these 100 short chapters begins with an insightful quote and pertinent scripture verse (that I recommend the reader memorize) which reinforces the advice that Joyce Meyer gives. Her fine writing rounds out each topic to give the reader a completely though-provoking and Bible-based experience.

HEAVEN SENT - PRACTICAL- EVERYDAY LIFE,
By
This review is from: 100 Ways to Simplify Your Life (Hardcover)
I drove nearly 200 miles to see the author and her husband at a book signing where I purchased this book. I would encourage everyone reading my review to try to see the author, Joyce Meyer, in person. Life is too complicated these days and any hints or exercises or changes I can make to simplify my life are always helpful. One thing Joyce Meyer teaches is that so much of our lives are controlled by our possessions - taking care of stuff, cleaning stuff, storing stuff, acquiring stuff - soooo, a good exercise is to examine and assess what role possessions and material things play in your life. Joyce encourages us to go visit a junkyard and look at things sitting in a junkyard. She reminds us that those things in that junkyard are long forgotten by someone but at one time these things were someone's dream and even could have resulted in a broken relationship to acquire these things or possess them. This insight sort of puts into perspective our materialistic culture. When I first started reading this book and watching the author on TV, I was somewhat put off by her personality. She has a midwestern straightforwardness which I actually find refreshing but some may be put off. Try to get past the messenger herself and listen to her message(s). One exercise in using this book is not to read it front to back, cover to cover. You can open the book to any random page and read ONE of the 100 things to simplify your life. You don't necessarily have to do them in order or sequence. Be creative and think outside the box. Some of the exercises may be easy for you while others may be more difficult.

This book is awesome because it displays many of the practical lessons that the Bible teaches on living a simplified life. Each chapter is a quick, practical read that has a style similar to a daily devotional, so the book can be read daily for a five to ten minute boost of encouragement.
Honestly, the book lifts my spirits each time I read two pages of it!

Simply A Good Helpful Book,
By
This review is from: 100 Ways to Simplify Your Life (Audio CD)
I've always like Joyce Meyer because of her down to earth common sense. This audio book from her is no exception. I don't think any of the advice she gives is either earth shattering or new. She takes very down to earth advice and pairs it with a scriptural basis for it. Joyce reminds readers of God's instruction to focus on one day at a time. In the book she encourages readers to realize they don't have to do, fix, or manage everythingt themselves. You can start with just a few things and work on them and then add a few more. All of the ideas will help in some way to make your life a bit simpler - from learning to say no to learning to set boundaries. If you're someone who hasread a lot of self-help books, this might be a bit simplistic for you, but I think overall it's a helpful book. This book keeps things simple and straightforward. There's no magic cure here...just things we have heard over and over but now mixed with a little scripture and applicable stories from Joyce's own life.

This book has changed my life in so many ways. I love it so much, I ordered another copy for my friend. This is the book for anyone that is losing their way or needs a little reminder of the basic bible principals that make our lives run smoothly.
I highly recommend this book for every Christian out there. Joyce Meyers is a great teacher, straight to the point and is very relatable.

too much filler,

This is a useful book, but the reviews that say this book is simply too long, and could be compressed greatly, are correct. Not essential reading.

My second Joyce Meyer book and it was pleasurable to say the least. Self-help devotees will savor it all as the author points out so vividly what life's priorities really are, and how to achieve more satisfaction from those hectic schedules and demands. The writing is clear-cut and void of any dichotomies. The one item of interest to me that stuck in my mind was about setting boundries (#18). The solid tips are profitable, convincing and certainly down-to-earth. This little book makes a great gift, and is perfect for individuals who are at their rock-bottom in life. Perhaps a little too simplified,
This review is from: 100 Ways to Simplify Your Life (Hardcover)
Let's face it: life is complicated. Most of us feel like we're doing too much with too little and half the time we don't know whether we're coming or going. In this book popular Bible teacher Joyce Meyer suggests strategies to make life in the 21st century a little easier. Tips range from the practical (clear out the clutter, organise, stay out of debt and block solicitor's phone calls) to the spiritual (keep God first, pray about everything, and become like a little child).
While there is some good stuff here, I really didn't learn anything that would help me simplify my life. Many of the spiritual topics are repeated in slightly varying forms. For example: tip #44 is "pray about everything"; #61 is "keep prayer simple" and #77 is "pray before you have an emergency". I certainly don't quarrel with the material presented, but I would have preferred to see a broader range of subjects. Additionally, no topic is given more than a page and a half. Obliviously no book can cover a hundred different items in depth, but I felt many concepts received only cursory summaries. While this book doesn't offer any life-changing insights, it does make a decent daily devotional. |
