More About the Author

I have coached high school football for 47 years, won over 330 games, a state big school championship, and Coach of the Year honors, but the best thing that happens to me is when ex-players see me and give me a hug and a "Hi Coach".

I loved coaching high school age kids, watching as they became young men. I've spent my entire adult life working with kids and I am so very lucky to have spent this time with great young people. My book is a collection of players and people who played for me and inspired me to do what I do.

Coach Ed McQuary

This is a fantastic book for any real fan of the game of football. While much of the narrative in today's media is about the next scandal involving a professional player, this book tells us why we pay so much attention to football in the first place. At it's core football is a game that teaches young people how to work together as a team, how to resolve their differences and how to accomplish common goals in a competitive environment. The game is really about emotion, inspiration and ultimately education and this book written by an old-timer high-school coach from Portland, Oregon, does an excellent job of illustrating that point. It focuses on the human side of football, on the stories of the different players and personalities that Coach McQ has encountered in his coaching life. Written in a night stand format, this book is a collection of terrific short stories, each one standing on its own and each one teaching us a different lesson about life, football and overcoming challenges. I couldn't help but feel inspired. The old coach has done it again!

I was lucky enough to have Coach McQuary coach one of my sons. The impression that Ed made on him was profound and indellible. This is an extremely "easy read" and the stories Coach McQuary tells of his relationship with his players will make you laugh and bring a year to your eye! I strongly recommend this book. I proud to call Ed McQuary my friend!

If you want to have your faith in humanity restored you must read this wonderful little book. It is about real young people who have done really courageous things written by the coach who spurred them on. I couldn't put it down until I had finished the last page!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. My son played high school football and brought back some great memories. It also reminded me of how sports and great coaches form and shape our kids for a life of commitment and responsibility.
