GREAT CD!,

I normally tend to stay away from the techno genre, as i find it too repetitive and boring after awhile. This cd is so different though. I loved it. The first six tracks are unbelievable! Traci's seductive whispery voice on the first track called Control is perfect for this style of music. There is such a seductive, hypnotic, dreamy quality to this song, i was hooked on first listen. The next track Fallen Angel is even better and has that same beautiful quality to it: angelic and haunting background singers and Traci's soft and sultry voice over a driving beat and even a touch of Flamenco guitar. Amazing! Both of these songs sound great in a car when you're driving down the highway. Outlaw Lover is one of the standout tracks on the cd that will have you wanting to hear it again and again. It's catchy and very cheesy, but in a fun and totally likeable way. I can totally see Mitsou or Stacey Q doing this song and having the vocals sound very similar. Good And Evil has a very German techno meets James Bond sound to it that is great. I can see why these songs would be good movie soundtrack songs. The slower songs took awhile to grow on me and lack a lot of the impact of the first six tracks, but i enjoy them very much and they don't deminish the quality of the cd at all. The song Father's Fields is a very disturbing and personal song about when she was raped by her father when she was a kid. It's not an enjoyable song to listen to, but it's one that should be heard and is an important song. The final track Okey Dokey is annoying and cute all at the same time. Personally i think the cd could have done without it, but i'm still giving this cd top marks and highly recommend it.

The only good thing to ever come out of the horrible "Mortal Kombat" movies is the killer soundtracks. One of my favorite songs from the original "Mortal Kombat" soundtack is Traci Lords' track "Control". I love Traci's breathless vocals and the fast paced techno beats. I finally got around to buying her album "1000 Fires" a week ago and I was quite surprised to find out how good the cd. The music is all written by the legendary techno act Juno Reactor including "Control". The lyrics on the other hand are something to be less than desired. I found the lyrics to be silly, and sometimes stupid like on "Okey Dokey" and "Good-n-Evil". "Okey Dokey" has to have the worst lyrics I have ever heard. The song itself has a good beat but the lyrics are awful. I was suprised to hear that not all of the cd sounds like "Control" but has a smooth, seductive trip hop feel like on "Distant Land" and "Fly". My favorite songs on the cd has to be the catchy "Fallen Angel" and "Outlaw Lover". I especially dug the infectious hooks of "Outlaw Lover" despite the silly lyrics. The album is by far from perfect but it is better than I was expecting it to be. Normally any actor who tries to become a musician usually fails miserably by my standards but Traci does a remarkably good job. Now if only she can work on her songwriting abilities.

Traci Lords: The Newest Diva of Dance!,
By A Customer
This review is from: 1000 Fires (Audio CD)
FANASTIC! Unlike most techno albums, Lords debut goes beyond simple rave standards and packs an album full of meaningful energy and alot of feeling. It starts off with the hit single 'Control' (from the film "Mortal Kombat") and takes you into a virtual dance wonderland. The songs inculde hardcore pieces ('Good n' Evil'), soft ballads ('Distant Land'), and even campy tunes ('Okey-Dokey'). Every track is a winner, not one fails to loose your intrest. A standout piece includes 'Father's Field', an emotional account of a painful (and true) experience that happened to Lords. Her openess in this song is amazing and reveals a vunerability that isn't very common in techno. Lords has established herself as a true artist, and proven that there's more to a "Melrose Place" star than good looks. She's a Madonna for the 21st century! END

I HAVE ALREADY BOUGHT THIS CD NUMEROUS TIMES AND BOUGHT IT AGAIN RECENTLY. EACH TIME I BUY IT SOMEONE WOULD WANT TO BORROW IT AND NEVER RETURN IT BECAUSE IT WAS THAT GOOD! ITS A CD THAT NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU LISTEN TO IT, YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN. MY FAVORITE SONG LIKE MANY OTHERS IS "CONTROL". ITS AN EXCELLENT SONG TO WORK OUT TO! "OUTLAW LOVER", "DISTANT LAND" AND "FLY" ARE OTHER FAVORITES!
TRACI LORDS REALLY SHOWS THAT SHE IS NOT AFRAID TO EXPRESS HER FEELINGS AND SHOW OTHERS WHAT SHE HAD GONE THROUGH IN HER PAST.

This album I listen to again and again and it never gets old. Techno I had never considered until this album which I didn't take to on the first listening. But about the 3rd I couldn't get it out of my CD player. It's been close ever since. Her vocals are awesome and the music is sonically smashing...

Traci Lords has proven herself as a more than competent artist, putting together (with help from some of the Juno Reactor peeps) a deceptively simple album that stands strongly amongst the other, more well known names in my collection. She almost knowingly flaunts her sexuality in "Control" and moves effortlessly into the trance rythems of "Fallen Angel". The album trips slightly around "Distant Land" (it just didn't seem to fit in with the feeling of the album).Recovering easily, though, Traci puts together the disturbing and innately haunting story that is "Father's Field". That song still gives me goosebumps. And just as easily, she gives us a smile at the end, and just to prove she doesn't take her too seriously, she gives us "Okey Dokey", full of tounge-in-cheek lyrics and excellent dance beats. All-in-all, this remains one of those albums that comes very close to that mythical perfection that Floyd's "Dark Side", and Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors" attained. I look forward to watching her mature as a songwriter and as a performer.

First Wave fans might hesitate,
By A Customer
This review is from: 1000 Fires (Audio CD)
I "discovered" Traci Lords through her appearance on First Wave. When I started searching the Internet, I found out that she had made tons of movies and a CD.I finally decided that I was going to give her CD a try. I bought it as a Christmas present to myself and the first time I listened to it, I thought I would never play it again. It was so DARK! And I couldn't even RECOGNIZE her voice on some of the songs! I was in shock for a long time. But the next day, I decided to try it again. It went better that time and now I really enjoy every song except for "Good N Evil;" it is simply too dark for me. I met her in real life at a show and her voice was so different from ANYTHING I had seen or expected, (especially in First Wave) that if I couldn't have seen her, but heard her voice, I NEVER in a MILLION years would have guessed that it was her. Now I know that people's singing voices are different and that the recorders like to play with all their little buttons, but it really just caught me off-guard. Even in "Father's Field," where she talks, her voice is her "movie" voice. She is an incredibly multi-talented woman, and I really admire her, but if you ONLY saw her in First Wave and that's what you expect, you will be as blown away as I was. I don't know that much about her past and maybe you really should before you buy this CD. (But even THAT may not prepare you.) It really makes you wonder how much she was going through at that time, but it will make you love her all the more now that she is on top in the acting world. Long live Traci Lords!

All Hail Goddess Traci,
By Noah O'Toole (Huntington, West Virginia) - See all my reviews

Very rarely does a CD come along I can listen to from beginning to end without even skipping one track. In fact, with the exception of this CD, there are none. "1,000 Fires" is the best CD I have ever heard and that is not just because I am a huge Traci Lords fan. This album has something for everyone. If you are into the hard tempo dance gooves of raw techno, the sexy "Control" and "Outlaw Lover" are for you. If you're like me and prefer a trance inducing trip-hop sound, check out "Say Something", "I Want You", and "Distant Land", which is the song Traci sang in her movie "Underworld". My personal favorite is the flamenco-tinged sound of "Fallen Angel", written about the death of Kurt Cobain and an appropriate title on this vixens album. Also don't over look the haunting melody of "Father's Field", a true song written about the rape she endured at the hands of her father. And finish off the album dancing and laughing at song "Okey Dokey", whose main (and only) lines are "okey dokey doggy daddy yummy mummy sugar". I can't praise her enough. Buy this album, I guarentee you'll LOVE it!

Hands Down one of the best cd's I ever purchased unlistened.,
This review is from: 1000 Fires (Audio CD)
Back in 1995, when I was a member of BMG or Columbia, I got a cd of the month that intrigued me because of who the singer was: former porn queen Traci Lords (who I knew from her Melrose Place fame). I kept the cd and it was a wise choice! Every song on here is a little gem. It has a Techno vibe that is enjoyable, not annoying. Every song is charming, danceable and 5 stars. The exception is "father's field" while an EXCELLENT song, it's difficult to listen to more than a few times without crying.
My favorites on this cd are: I want you, Control, Say Something, Fly, Fallen Angel and the cheesy Okey Dokey.

Be forewarned that if you buy this CD expected earthshattering vocal abilities, you'll be disappointed. If, however, you want a hard-driven techno beat with breathy vocals and deceptively simple lyrics, this is the album for you. Here, Traci makes a definitive break with her past, and shows that she's more than just a pretty face. She also shows that actresses can make better records than what Jennifer Lopez and Jasmine Guy can put out. |
