5.0 out of 5 stars Great Deal!!!, April 4, 2007
This review is from: 1000mAh Internal Li-Polymer Battery for Palm Tungsten E T5 TX PalmOne PDA (Electronics)
If you're not wanting to fork out the big bucks to replace the battery in a PDA that isn't in stores anymore, but you also don't want to fork out 300+ dollars for a new one, this is your best bet. Soldering the battery is easy. Just buy a wood burning iron in the craft section at walmart for 10 bucks, it does the job nicely. the kit comes with the screwdriver you need to get those tiny screws out, which is a plus, but you will need like a flat head screw driver or something thin that you can pry open the shell with (do this slowly or you will screw up everything on the board). To get you use to soldering, just practice unsoldering the wire connected to the old battery. Remember where the wires are connected to, or you will mess up your PDA. Charge from 2-3 hours.
All in all, a great way to save money and get your money's worth out of the Tungsten E

5.0 out of 5 stars Good battery, tricky installation, February 7, 2008

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 1000mAh Internal Li-Polymer Battery for Palm Tungsten E T5 TX PalmOne PDA (Electronics)
Battery installation: My husband is an electrical engineer so he wasn't afraid to tackle this problem. What's the worst that could happen? He breaks my Tungsten E and I "have" to buy a new and improved model. So, we jumped in to see if we could revive my old Palm for under twenty bucks. The installation of this battery was a little scary at times. It's rather hard to pull the old battery off the board. It's just stuck on with double stick tape but you have to pull hard and the circuit board is bending a little and we thought we were going to break something. However, it did come off and we didn't break anything. The new battery comes with double stick tape on one side but, if you glue that side down then the wires come out of the battery the opposite side from the original. We decided to glue down the side of the battery that did not have the double stick tape on it so we could match the original battery. Putting the thing back together, getting everything to line up again was mildly worrisome but not really a problem. In the end, the case snapped back togther and everything looked good as new.

Backing up your data before installing the new battery: I saw several web sights warning that you should use special software to fully backup the data on your Palm before doing this installation. I didn't do that. I just synched my Palm with my PC as usual and hoped for the best. After charging the battery overnight I turned it on and it looked like it was brand new, starting from scratch. I followed the directions on my Palm, re-aligned the pointer, re-synched with my PC and voila! everything was back to normal, exactly like before. My Outlook data was all there, the games that I had purchased were there, my menus were the same. If I had not watched my husband do this, I would not have been able to tell anything happened. I don't know if other people have lost some of their data but I was happy to find that just my usual PC synch did the trick.

That was 3 days ago. I had to charge the battery last night, after 3 days of my normal use. I honestly can't remember what the original battery was like 3 years ago to compare. So, if you are not shy about taking things apart and soldering (it's an extremely easy soldering job if you have the tool already), then I say go for it. This battery came with the mini screw drivers and printed instructions and I recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best choice I've made, May 31, 2008
This review is from: 1000mAh Internal Li-Polymer Battery for Palm Tungsten E T5 TX PalmOne PDA (Electronics)
When my palm pilot (tungsten e) died, I found out that the problem was that it was only my battery. I went to a specialized battery store and they said it would cost ~$70 to buy this battery from them. I realized that this wasn't close to a good deal, so I shopped around online. I am soooo thankful. I found this for a total of ~$17,- including shipping - and that includes directions with pictures, the screwdrivers needed to open the palm, and the battery (which turned out to be a high-capacity battery, which is even better than I expected). it was perfectly new,and was easy to solder in (yes, you do have to solder, but I am fourteen and have only soldered once before. There is already solder/flux there for you to use, so all you really need is the soldering iron (i borrowed one from a friend)The only problem that I had was closing up the case again (i didn't realize I needed to use a little force- hey, I didn't want to break it). Just be careful with the soldering iron, as it can melt the plastic case around the motherboard. Please, back up all of your data before replacing the battery.
BOTTOM LINE: I would definitely recommend buying from Osprey Talon. It's a heck of a lot better than paying $70 for the same battery.
