If you're doing trimwork but have never spent a lot of time looking at various ideas out there, this is an excellent book to get your creative mind going. There are numerous variations of trim possibilities within these pages. But the best thing for me was the pages of molding profiles showing the various types and styles of molding available. Not all of it is available in my market, but it gave me ideas for molding I could make using my tools. Overall a really good book - I keep it by my bedside and go through it regularly just to create new ideas for trimwork.

This is definitely a "big picture" idea book. Lots of pictures to give you ideas about how you can use trim, as well as some design tips and discussions of using trim, the use of colors and such. My only real complaint is that I wish there were more closeups so I could see more detail on the trim used in some of the rooms.

It's not at all a guide for installing trim, which makes the brief chapter covering the tools used to install trim seem a bit out of place. But I wanted trim ideas and this has them, and at a reasonable price. There are plenty of books that discuss installing trim.

I am a custom carpenter in the metro Detroit area, and am addicted to trim books. I use them to come up with and/or show ideas to my customers. As a result I have a large library. I picked up this book hoping to find something new. Its title is a little bit misleading, and I think they stretched the truth a little bit with their claim of 1001 Ideas. There are a lot of details pictured in the book, but I think too many of the 1001 are together in one picture (room) that is too small to highlight each idea. I own much better books, and find myself going to them far more often than this book when looking for new ideas or solutions for my customers' spaces. Don't get me wrong, the book is not a terrible book. It just does not live up to the title in my oppinion, and as I wrote above, I own better books on trimwork. Check out my other reviews for titles.

I bought this book knowing that it would not be a 5 because I wanted ideas on how to use trimwork to make my 90 year old house look better. If you are looking for a do-it-yourself book this is not it. Great photos and many ideas.

the book as far as reading is concerned is very good.i bought thinking that it was furniture trimwork,but it has not gone wasted. I can steal ideas from the book for my furniture in all a very good book for people in that type of business

This is a wonderful book that taught me a lot about trimwork. My favorite part of the book was the photos and illustrations of various base molding, casings, wainscoting, rosettes, finials, corbels. It included a few exterior molding trim, stair railings and more. My other favorite part of the book were the sideviews of various moldings, like a baseboard.

In my Mom's house I realized the name of the molding used along the bottom of the wall is shoe molding. It's so helpful to know the names of different molding and all the options out there. It describes how to use 1-3 molding pieces together to make a really nice, finished molding.

Not only does the book talk about the names of the molding and illustrations of the molding, it gives some info about establishing floor levels. The section on casings and wainscotting was really good, because a lot of books just briefly touch on the subject. You'll find info on window seats, shelving, pillars, ceiling treatment and pilasters in this book. The photographs were wonderful and clear. Sometimes I got distracted by the rooms themselves, but when they are so gorgeous...

I definitely give this book a thumbs up and think it gives a well-rounded view of architectural trimwork in the home. My favorite trimwork book so far.

I think this book is incredible. Even my carpenter references it a lot. He has borrowed it so often, I'm giving him my old one and buying a new one for myself!

This book is filled with great ideas for trim work. The section on how to do the work is very clear, as I am not a do it yourself type of person, but I can follow the process and know what should be done to complete the work. I am happy with my purchase.

Very well written and illustrated reference guide for millwork. I have used this quite a few times since receiving this book as a reference for customers to use to get visual clues as to how certain types of millwork will look after installed. It is an indispensable tool for reference for proper stack ups of crowns and bases. I thoroughly enjoy using this book in my business, it has given me "new" classic ideas for millwork.

really, really, really helpful book for reference and ideas to replace, update or refinish trimwork. glad i purchased.
