5.0 out of 5 stars A good book for teaching yourself Java
It is the 2nd book which I read on Java. It is very helpful especially you have had very basic idea about Java. I learned a lot of details about Java, as well as other IT background.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great book but outdated...
This really is a nice book but if you get it, don't be surprised to find out that a TON of methods in the classes have been deprecated in JAVA 1.1. Since JAVA 1.2 is around the corner, I'd make sure this is the book you want.

A lot of neat stuff in JAVA 1.1 is not in this book that's critical to JAVA programming (i.e. event handling, printing, cutting and pasting,).

5.0 out of 5 stars Out-dated but excellent, March 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 1001 Java Programmer's Tips (with CD-rom) (Paperback)
A very good book explaining Java 1.0 in detail. The learn by tips approach is excellent. Unfortunately this book covers version 1.0 and many of the features have been deprecated as of version 1.2. Still , this remains an excellent book.

This book is excellent for both get started and advanced, it has everything you need about jdk 1.02, it has many tricks for programming with java.

When i write both applets and applications i use three books:

1001 Java Programmer's Tips

java quick reference

Special edition using java (second edition, the third is the poor java book)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent - lots of very useful info, December 16, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: 1001 Java Programmer's Tips (with CD-rom) (Paperback)
When I changed jobs to program from C++/Smalltalk to Java, this is the book I used the most for the first couple of months. Lots of useful information that is easy to find (each tidbit is pretty much stand alone). I still use it a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have Java book!, September 17, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: 1001 Java Programmer's Tips (with CD-rom) (Paperback)
As a professional programmer for a software company, I use many many books. For Java, this one I use the most. I learned Java from this book and keep going back to it even for the most advanced stuff. I strongly suggest this easy-to-read and get-up-and-go book for *anyone* interested in learning and using Java.

5.0 out of 5 stars A super JAVA book - tremendous "bang for the buck", June 25, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: 1001 Java Programmer's Tips (with CD-rom) (Paperback)
I bought this book because of its clear, easy to read style and the numerous, clear examples. It covers everything from basic terms and explanations, to sophisticated AWT and network programming. I have found that it is equally useful as a textbook and reference guide (for programming techniques).

Highly recomended to anyone interested in pratical JAVA programming!
