1001 Ways...,

This review is from: 1001 Ways To Save Money . . . and Still Have a Dazzling Wedding (Paperback)
I thought this was a good book. Wearing an old pair of shoes may seem far-fetched to some, but when you are just starting out, getting little or no help from your family, and trying desperately to plan a wedding for less than $5K, some of the ideas that seem far-fetched to some are perfectly reasonable to me. This book was written to cater to any bride, no matter her budget, who is trying to save money. Some tips will work for those who have $10K to spend, some are aimed at those who have next to nothing. Do not think its a terrible book because some of the ideas seem cheap to you. I think this is a well balanced book for all ranges of budgets.

Mostly common-sense advice and phone numbers anyone can find,

This review is from: 1001 Ways to Save Money ... and Still Have a Dazzling Wedding (Paperback)
This book may appeal to someone who has very little experience making or doing anything for themselves and/or trying to save money. Although there were a few helpful suggestions I hadn't thought of, most of it was common sense. Basically, this book just lists suggestions for alternatives to going to a bridal salon and spending whatever they tell you you need to spend. If you know that the wedding industry is an enormous, extremly profitable money-making business, you are already on the lookout for inexpensive alternatives.I expected volumes of names, addresses, and phone numbers of secret business listings that are not in the phone book. instead, the same 800 #s for dress makers, invitations, and airlines that you can find in many bridal magazines and/or phone books are listed, with the suggestion to comparison shop! On the bright side, I guess it's nice to have all the numbers in one place. If you are a second time bride, have ever shopped at a thrift store (to s! ave money), or ever think about and use alternative shopping methods (such as Christmas shopping in June), your money is better spent on your wedding; you've already considered most of the advice in this book. If, however, you usually spend money without a second thought and only now have to implement a budget for your wedding, rush out and buy this book.

Helpful Money Saving Ideas,
This review is from: 1001 Ways To Save Money . . . and Still Have a Dazzling Wedding (Paperback)
I have looked at/read a number of `how to' wedding planning & idea books. Many have the same information, but this book did have some additional ideas. I am an older, second-time bride, therefore, I don't have friends whom have recently married to ask for help or recommendations. The author did list ideas that I had not thought of and I did find many of the suggestions for saving money helpful. One idea I plan to look into is renting a nice automobile for the weekend, instead of a limo for the day. We will have a small wedding party, (therefore no need for a large limo) and I have grown sons, one of which will be happy to drive us. No need to worry about the limo and driver arriving on time, or running over at the end of the evening, or the cost of a tip. Some of the ideas in the book may seem common sense, but when you are in the middle of planning and making decisions, you may over look the obvious. The author lists many suggestions for planning ahead, so you don't have to spend more money later to correct an oversight, or mistake.
I'm sure you could use her ideas to save you the cost of the book and more.
