1001 Ways...,
By
This review is from: 1001 Ways To Save Money . . . and Still Have a Dazzling Wedding (Paperback)
I thought this was a good book. Wearing an old pair of shoes may seem far-fetched to some, but when you are just starting out, getting little or no help from your family, and trying desperately to plan a wedding for less than $5K, some of the ideas that seem far-fetched to some are perfectly reasonable to me. This book was written to cater to any bride, no matter her budget, who is trying to save money. Some tips will work for those who have $10K to spend, some are aimed at those who have next to nothing. Do not think its a terrible book because some of the ideas seem cheap to you. I think this is a well balanced book for all ranges of budgets.

Mostly common-sense advice and phone numbers anyone can find,
By A Customer
This review is from: 1001 Ways to Save Money ... and Still Have a Dazzling Wedding (Paperback)
This book may appeal to someone who has very little experience making or doing anything for themselves and/or trying to save money. Although there were a few helpful suggestions I hadn't thought of, most of it was common sense. Basically, this book just lists suggestions for alternatives to going to a bridal salon and spending whatever they tell you you need to spend. If you know that the wedding industry is an enormous, extremly profitable money-making business, you are already on the lookout for inexpensive alternatives.I expected volumes of names, addresses, and phone numbers of secret business listings that are not in the phone book. instead, the same 800 #s for dress makers, invitations, and airlines that you can find in many bridal magazines and/or phone books are listed, with the suggestion to comparison shop! On the bright side, I guess it's nice to have all the numbers in one place. If you are a second time bride, have ever shopped at a thrift store (to s! ave money), or ever think about and use alternative shopping methods (such as Christmas shopping in June), your money is better spent on your wedding; you've already considered most of the advice in this book. If, however, you usually spend money without a second thought and only now have to implement a budget for your wedding, rush out and buy this book.

Helpful Money Saving Ideas,
This review is from: 1001 Ways To Save Money . . . and Still Have a Dazzling Wedding (Paperback)
I have looked at/read a number of `how to' wedding planning & idea books. Many have the same information, but this book did have some additional ideas. I am an older, second-time bride, therefore, I don't have friends whom have recently married to ask for help or recommendations. The author did list ideas that I had not thought of and I did find many of the suggestions for saving money helpful. One idea I plan to look into is renting a nice automobile for the weekend, instead of a limo for the day. We will have a small wedding party, (therefore no need for a large limo) and I have grown sons, one of which will be happy to drive us. No need to worry about the limo and driver arriving on time, or running over at the end of the evening, or the cost of a tip. Some of the ideas in the book may seem common sense, but when you are in the middle of planning and making decisions, you may over look the obvious. The author lists many suggestions for planning ahead, so you don't have to spend more money later to correct an oversight, or mistake.
I'm sure you could use her ideas to save you the cost of the book and more.

One way to dave $$..don't buy this book!,

This review is from: 1001 Ways to Save Money ... and Still Have a Dazzling Wedding (Paperback)
This book is filled with ridiculous ideas. For example, a suggested way to save money on a wedding gown is to buy it at a garage sale? Or instead of buying new white shoes, just wear an old pair..but remember to clean them up! Or..if you do not want to spend money on a florist, just grow your own flowers, and create your own bouquets. I was looking for some realistic answers...and there are a few in this book, but overall, I think it was a definite waste of my money.

This book has a lot of good ideas, checklists, and contact information (websites, phone numbers) for just about everything you need for a wedding. The tips are in short paragraphs compiled by category so you can easily highlight the ones you think are important without a lot of reading. Highly recommended!

I found some very useful ideas in this book. I would recommend buying a used copy to save a couple bucks, but it is worth it.

1001 Ways to Save Money and Still Have a Dazzling Wedding,

This review is from: 1001 Ways To Save Money . . . and Still Have a Dazzling Wedding (Paperback)
Over the period of 8 months or so, I have been actively involved in assisting my daugher, Melissa, plan her wedding. Sharon's first book entitled, "Mother of the Bride Handbook", proved to be a definite must when addressing questions to protocol and etiquette. However, "1001 Ways to Save Money" offered tips on how to seek value in preparation without looking as if cost were the No. 1 priority. Information on seasonal flowers was most helpful. Sharon offers tips on how to be kind but firm in dealing with inflexible individuals. This book offers insight into how to tactfully handle situations that could pose a difficulty with inter-personal relationships with families, as well as dealing with issues with regard to finances. This is a book not to be overlooked when planning a wedding. It allows you viable alternatives to making selections for wedding preparations that otherwise would be out of reach. It clearly presents choices that deal with the wedding venue. Indeed, this book will help you to obtain the most for your money.

This book comprehensive, so it has some budget ideas that you've undoubtedly already thought of (invite fewer guest), and some that you would never want to do (cleanup your own reception), or probably can't pull off (do your own calligraphy). Yet, in the 1001 tips, you're sure to find a couple good ones. I've already saved the book's price several times over.

I found a lot of helpful hints in this book. My fiance and I are paying for the wedding ourselves, so every little bit helps. Remember, what may be a common sense idea to you, someone else may not have thought of. I found it helpful to use a flourescent marker to highlight the especially good ideas as I was reading along. Many of the phone numbers are outdated, but it's very easy to do an online search, most of them have websites. All in all, an informative book with lots of great ideas!

What a great collection of money-saving ideas for weddings! Sharon's discount wedding-planning website suggestions saved me over 60% on my wedding. I've suggested this updated edition of the book to all of my friends and THEY'RE raving about how much they're saving. Most of them credit Ms. Naylor with SAVING their wedding, and allowing them to afford a better honeymoon. Plus, they're not stressing about money and fighting with their grooms. Sharon Naylor really knows what she's talking about! Great book! Don't miss out on the fantastic ideas and website suggestions.
