Editorial Reviews

Review

"With "1001 Wines," you'll learn about, and hope for, a taste of some of the world's most sought-after wines." ~San Francisco Chronicle

"But this massive tome goes way beyond the vapid approach of so many such works, with tasty tidbits and inside information on a masterfully chosen list." ~The Star Tribune

“The list is not of the greatest wines or of authors’ favorites; instead, it includes intriguing, historical, and influential wines. All of them can be purchased, although some are rare and expensive.” ~Library Journal

I don't think I'm going to get to all 1001 wines before I die. But this book will help me choose the ones I do get to. Filled with great photos, lots of history, and all the facts you want to know about wine, this is an excellent book for both novices and knowledgable wine drinkers.

Over the years I've collected many books on wine (having been in the Wine Trade for a long time). Now retired I can re-read and buy new ones.
This book is thick and heavy, but contains all you need to know about not only the 1001 wines in it,but also the vineyard, history, proprietor, winemaker
and how the wine was made. Most importantly it tells you what it tastes like, and recommends other vintages of the same wine and also recommends
other wines similar in style and price. And there are lots of photos either of the vineyard, estate or product. It does refer mainly to high end and expensive
wines but does contain details of many, many affordable wines.Written in a non-technical style,it is not only very readable, but a must have reference book.
Enjoy the book and the wines in it!

It's a good book of very different wines. Some are inexpensive some ultra expensive. The really nice thing is that it highlighted wineries that have other less expensive wines that I could try. It's a fun coffee table book.

I own the italian version of this guide, but I think my opinion applies to the original too.
While one can debate that there would be other wines worthy of the guide (so maybe the total would skyrocket to 10001 or more), there's no doubt that you are going to enjoy what you find in this book. I knew some of the products described in the book and I decided to try some new ones, suggested by this guide. Very satisfied, one of the best gifts I ever received.
It's also great to plan visits, as there's an index by country/region.
IMHO it's a must-have for both experienced enthusiasts and newcomers.

This is a great gift for you or the wine collector in your life. My son had just enjoyed a bottle of the wine on the book cover and is looking forward to trying many others listed in the book.
