I find Quint's work to be simple, straightforward and practical. So many books give theory and platitudes and never get down to the nitty gritty action items and verbal responses. Although these lessons come directly out of health care, I believe the knowledge is transferable for other service industries. Like any program you have to take the template and make it your own...

I am a nurse leader, and I find this book a breath of fresh air, full of practical, helpful advice for the healthcare leader in todays complex healthcare environment... and also so applicable to anyone who wants to lead their department or business to success. I have used this book for my own development as well as sharing it in many hosptial settings.

The Q and A style lends itself to being able to read it for a few minutes during a busy shift or waiting in a lunch line. Leave it in your breakroom, your employees will love Quint Studers style and ability to distill problems and concerns down to a simple solution while offering wisdom and advice. My copy is so worn out, dogged eared, and hi-lighted, I think I will buy another!

4.0 out of 5 stars 101 answers to questions leaders ask, January 30, 2006
This review is from: 101 Answers to Questions Leaders Ask (Paperback)
Informative. The questions were general enough that the information can be applied to many managers in their workplace. Yet the content was applicable because the writer was writing specifically about hospital management.

This is a really good book is that it does what it says. You can look at the different areas of the book and the questions and it is a concise way to get information. I have used it often since I have bought it and it helps me to get my thoughts in order. Very pleased with all aspects of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical advice for busy leaders, January 26, 2006
This review is from: 101 Answers to Questions Leaders Ask (Paperback)
I found this book to be particularly helpful in addressing specific challenges I've faced as a leader. Written in a Q&A style that makes the advise very accessible, I can use it as an "in the moment" reference tool to spark my thoughts about how to address a particular issue. Quint's responses to common issues faced by healthcare leaders are unfailingly direct, practical, and thought provoking. This reference guide has helped me on multiple occasions. I recommend it every healthcare leader I know!

5.0 out of 5 stars Straigtforward, prescriptive answers to tough questions, January 26, 2006
This review is from: 101 Answers to Questions Leaders Ask (Paperback)
Compiling short, previously written articles or material into a book is a popular and surprisinly effective way for many subject matter experts to write a book. This is exactly what Quint has done with "101 Answers." He took the 101 toughest and most commonly asked questions that had been sent to him by Health Care leaders and compiled his answers to them into an extremely readable and worthwhile book. And I think this is the reason why the answers are so refreshingly direct and prescriptive. Quint never dodges the question or hides behind a "that depends" kind of answer. He does articulate the dynammics or principles involved, but only as a way of explaining his (already provided) more direct, nuts-and-bolts answer.

Many people will seek to purchase this as a companion book to "Hardwiring Excellence," and I strongly recommend it for that purpose, but it also works as a stand-alone book in its own right, and as a great reference tool for when various situations come up - this is sound advice picked from the brain of someone who has been there, done that, and succeded brilliantly at getting results. Highly recommended.

This book is very supportive to his other book "Results That Lasts." The questions asked and answered are the questions that came to me as it read the other book. I highly recommend it. It reinforces key points and gives answers anyone can understand.

I find Quint's work to be simple, straightforward and practical. So many books give theory and platitudes and never get down to the nitty gritty action items and verbal responses. Although these lessons come directly out of health care, I believe the knowledge is transferable for other service industries. Like any program you have to take the template and make it your own for your unique set of circumstances. The one area, I believe could evolve is the basic 5 or 6 Pillar system that organizations focus- Quality, People, Growth, Finance, Service. Others have suggested flaws in this horizontal structure, which does not allow for any prioritization as well as using less subjective terms. For example using terms like Safety, Courtesy, and Efficiency in that order give front line staff a priority in their decision making with concrete terms.
