Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap

The game of baseball has launched thousands of attractions that reflect the game’s rich history and quirky lore: shrines and gravesites, museum exhibits, statues, plaques, bars and restaurants, pop culture landmarks, and more. Josh Pahigian has gathered 101 of the very best of the best along with a collection of essays that explain where to find these sites and how they reflect the soul of this classic American sport.

Among the top places to visit are the St. Paul Saints’ Midway Stadium, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center, the Billy Goat Tavern, the Field of Dreams movie site, the Jackie Robinson Center, Lenny Dykstra’s Car Wash, and Shoeless Joe Jackson Memorial Park.

Whether you are an armchair traveler, a sports fan, or a lover of local folklore, this intriguing and colorful tribute to the game will be a welcome addition to your sports collection.

From the Back Cover

From sandlots and skyboxes to TV rooms and sports bars, America’s love for baseball has inspired too-numerous-to-count memories, discussions, and tributes. Josh Pahigian takes you on a road trip across America to honor the game's players, fans, and ballparks. Through a series of fascinating essays, he reminds you of the game’s effect on American culture: how the game evolved while our country came of age, how baseball helped break down barriers, and how it unified our citizens when we needed it most.

Whether you travel by car or plane or sit in the comfort of your armchair, this book leads to 101 of the very best baseball places, including the Ted Williams
Museum, Ozzie Smith’s Restaurant & Sports Bar, the remnants of Forbes Field, Babe Ruth’s gravesite, McCovey Cove, and dozens of other captivating landmarks and curios that celebrate our national pastime.

Seventeen down and eighty-four more places for me to visit. Most though, I will be fine just reading about.
This is the type of book that can start conversations. I suggest reading it a little bit at a time. Leave it by the couch and friends automatically pick it up and browse throught it.
It should be in a larger format. Needs to be a little more "lively".
If you like baseball, you will enjoy this.

I bought this book for my son for Christmas. It turns out that the entire family enjoyed it. We keep it on the coffee table in the living room and everyone is drawn to it and can't put it down once they start perusing it's pages! Great book of baseballs shrines and places everyone should take the time to see.

Josh has written another fine book. Many of the places he
lists I have already seen and he is right on. Many of the
others are way out of the way for me ( I am in New York)).
Great for a family of baseball fans.
