5.0 out of 5 stars Very Creative Options and Street Smart Tips
My husband bought me this book as I am considering changing jobs. I found the variety of this book to exceed that of similar ones, and the 5 or 6 sections in the back on street smart tips was terrific for interviewing, negotiating, uncovering hidden opportunities. This was a great value. Wish it was on disk....

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resume resource for those without a clue
This book will undoubtedly save time for those who are frustrated by the process of writing their own resume. Having reviewed more resumes than I can count at this point, I can fully appreciate the value in showing people how to scrutinize their own work. The trouble that I've found is that people are too close to their own histories to do a really good job of marketing...

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful, Though Not Perfect, April 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 101 Best Resumes: Endorsed by the Professional Association of Resume Writers (Paperback)
Resume examples are useful for sparking your graphic/aesthetic creativity, though the career tips are little different than those found in many other books. And the authors should be chided for their shameless self-promotion of an executive recruitment guide one of them authored.

I found the book to be very helpful. It had some useful tips and sample resumes and cover letters. One of the best books of its type I've ever seen

Having reviewed more resumes than I can count at this point, I can fully appreciate the value in showing people how to scrutinize their own work. The trouble that I've found is that people are too close to their own histories to do a really good job of marketing themselves. They know too much. What this book shows as much as anything is that getting a professional review on a resume is worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where was this book when I nededed it 20 years ago?, December 3, 1998

Just about every resume book looks like the next - except for this one. Particularly I like the fact that the authors outline the ONLY rule for resume writing - that there are NO rules except for ensuring no spelling, grammmatical, or typograohical errors. It is a book that offers wonderful samples from many certified writers and has an easy-to-read text that makes great common sense and gives the job seeker control - WOW what a concept - having control over our own career via our resume. Can't wait for the sequel.

I found this book to be very useful in helping me develop my resume. They have a lot of good examples and focus on matching the accomplishments of the job searcher with the needs of the employer. It's really strong. The job search tips were very value-added as well. It's worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars 101 Best... has great tips in the back!, December 3, 1998

I bought this book based on the reivews in this site, and it is a really good one. The resumes have a wide variety of examples and are very high-powered/professional. But to my surpirse, there are 200 quick and lean job search tips in the back, and they're great. They helped out on interviewing, writing resumes and letters, working with headhunters and interviewing. This is a great value if you need a job search book.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is a joke! Horrible!, March 11, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 101 Best Resumes: Endorsed by the Professional Association of Resume Writers (Paperback)
This book was a total waste of money and time. I was looking for some new and cutting edge ways to present resumes and cover letters. All it contains is every example of every boring resume and cover letter you have ever seen. Don't believe me. On page 37, here's a real gem of what they consider a great cover letter.

Dear Sir, I noticed your advertisement for Sales Manager in the paper. I am very interested in pursuing this opportunity and have enclosed my resume for your review. LOL. Are you kidding me? The book contained more examples of letters that would sound good in about 1958, not 2009.

But what really makes this book a joke is the advice to not use I in your letters- duh. But then gives this letter example. Ready for this. Be sure to count all the I's.
A mutual acquaintance (do people still use the word acquaintance, lmao) recommended that I contact you. I have taken the liberty (taken the liberty- great writing, lol) of enclosing my resume. I now realize that I have been missing my calling. I love sales but have not been selling the products and services that I love. I am a strong sales professional.

Yep, don't use I. This book is a total joke. How anyone could give it 4 stars is beyond me except that the author has plenty of friends.

If you are expecting an up to date book on resumes, this is NOT it!

My wife got me this book for Christmas through Amazon.com to follow up with my New Year's resolution to look for new opportunities in healthcare. This book is pretty good - it has a lot of varying kinds of resumes and good tips for overall job search, interviewing, and networking.
