New to djembe playing this was just what i wanted after learning bass, tone and slap! It has taken me from a drum thumper to a rhythm player making drum circles much more fun.The variety of rhythms is amazing....something for everyone.The greatest thing is that the rhythms are clear, precise and long enough for even newbies to catch .Never fear it is not Just for newbies, the incredible number of rhythms allow you to be challenged regardless of your expertise and happily stimulates creativity. A fun find!

I own the DVD, "101 Drum Circle Rhythms" and love it. It has a wealth of drum rhythms to add to any drum circle. I learn best by watching, and the techniques used on the DVD are very helpful. Each rhythm is shown for long enough amount to allow you to pick up the rhythm and play along. I am very pleased with the versatility of the drum rhythms. This DVD is an asset for anyone who plays hand drums, especially in a drum circle, and has something for everyone - from the basic to advanced drummer. This DVD has been a great tool for me and it is well worth the investment.

I play a number of instruments - but only just picked up a Djembe. I was in real need of some examples for how to play this instrument and how to come up with some patterns that were more interesting than the very simple banging I was doing on the drum. This DVD is great - I can work through each pattern at my own pace, trying to copy what he does. It is really helping me improve and get ideas.

This DVD is laid out in a very smart manner; each rhythm is performed long enough to learn it; practice for a while, do another one the next day (that's what I'm doing, anyway). I am new to the djembe and hand percussion in general (read: total newbie), and this DVD makes it easy. If there is ever a second one in this series I will buy it. If you're just getting into hand percussion I suggest you try this out. The rhythms are also translatable to cajon, which I am also just starting.

i am new to learning the djembe, i was trying to use utube but i found i needed more assistance. i purchased this cd and also the dvd to go along with it and its awesome.....it really helps to have a visual to see the hand strikes along with the rhythm. i would highly recommend this to anyone who just starting or anyone who wants to learn additional rhythms to add on to their skill level. the delivery was very fast and it came well packaged to prevent any damage. it was a pleasure doing business here! thank u!! christy

I have several hand drum/djembe DVD's. This is my favorite to use to open up my range of hand drum rhythms. Easy to follow and get a sense of the variety of rhythms you can create on a Djembe. It contains a range of difficulty that has helped me stretch my skills.

The DVD is exceptional, with wonderful rhythms across a range of ethnic styles. I use my DVD or PC media player to A-B loop the section I want, then adjust the playback speed as I get up to speed with Shannon's moves. What I particularly love about his playing, is that in some of the tracks are what are called "muff" or "ghost" drum taps. These act as timekeepers to fill out the way your body flows into all the nuances of the rhythm. Really adds depth and precision to your playing. As well as just engaging more of your body and left right brain coordination. It feels fantastic to play like this.

And about Shannon himself. All I can say is that this guy embodies an authentic African spirit of generosity, courage, and community building. (Truly in the spirit of Olatunji.) I've asked him questions occasionally via email and he always responds quickly with helpful information. I get that his drum circles are this way also, grounded, earthy, respectful, learn by doing not necessarily by talking or commanding. This guy is a real ambassador of the drum. Please support his work and all the outreach he does.

I'm a newbie hand drummer with both a visual monkey see monkey do learning style as well as hearing the rhythm or reading notation.
The dvd has very good lighting and sound. With the close framing of hands and drum, its easier to follow the strokes and practice the pattern.
I also purchased the book "A practical guide to hand drumming and drum circles". It is also very useful and well done. From info on how to choose a drum to helping children learn to drum while not breaking the equipment, there is a broad range of subjects to help share the fun and gain proficiency.
The communication with the seller was excellent. I had a question about a choice of accompanying cd's that was answered very quickly. I made an error on my shipping address when placing the order, emailed him right away and he corrected it before shipping.
Well worth the money!

101 Drum Circle Rhythms is great for people who know nothing about drumming! This DVD was amazing. I work for a non profit and we wanted to work with our children on drumming circles. This DVD taught us all in very easy, simple steps. Thanks for creating a DVD that is geared toward all :)

I have been playing my drum for many years.. and this DVD added a fresh new set of rhythms to my basic few. I couldn't believe that they could all sound so different! There is something for everyone here... The recording was excellent. Whether you are new to the drum or have been playing for a long time, you are sure to find this DVD helpful and fun!
