This is the perfect guide to improving your horse's manners, concentration, temperament, suppleness and obedience both on the ground and from the saddle. Learn how horses think and respond to training and adopt sympathetic methods that your horse really understands. Strengthen the partnership you have with your horse and as a consequence improve all aspects of your horse's behaviour from ridden work to being around him in the yard. Gain a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of the training system and then transfer the techniques to the subsequent exercises. The 101 groundwork and ridden exercises can be dipped into to solve a particular problem, or strung together to form an individually tailored training program.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Method for Natural Horsemanship, May 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 101 Horsemanship Exercises (Hardcover)
It is refreshing to read a book on horse training using Natural Horsemanship (indirect) methods, as well as direct methods to compare them with, from an author who has NOTHING TO SELL. No fancy products, ropes, halters, sticks... Just sound, gentle, compassionate methods for communicating and working collaboratively with your unique equine. Yes, you will be asked to use a "clinician" type rope halter, and a firm stick and string (infinitely more gentle than a springy whip when asking for respect of personal space), but the author doesn't sell them.

The illustrated, step-by-step exercises put vividly into practice what Bill Dorrance described rather "ethereally" in his "True Horsemanship Through Feel." If you loved the concepts in that book but were left frustrated by the lack of practical tips, this book would be a welcome addition to your library.

I gave a friend all of my Clinton Anderson, Pat Parelli, and John Lyons books. I felt that they were contradictory and self-promoting. I kept Dorrance, and added this to my equine library, and with "The Art of Horsemanship" by Xenophon currently on the way, I believe they are all I will ever need in order to have the best working relationship with my equines.

I believe this book is out of print at present; it would definitely be worth your while to purchase it used. It is unfortunate this author did not have the vast marketing machine to promote her book as so many of today's clinicians, with their "necessary products," have at their disposal. The information is concise, sound, well-illustrated, and well-presented and may be the only training book you will ever need.

Your horse will respect, trust, and love you if you train using these methods.

5.0 out of 5 stars simply a great book!, October 9, 2009
This review is from: 101 Horsemanship Exercises (Hardcover)
For anyone who wants to work with his/her horse in a different way. If you want to form a partnership with your horse, this is the book to buy.
It gives 101 exercises beginning at the beginning, very simple but very effective. It gives solutions for possible problems you might have, starting out.
My horse responds to it perfectly, it is nice to work with my horse this way.
Good, clear explanation. Starting with simple groundwork, finishing with riding exercises.
Basically a book for beginners and experienced horse people.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for the Natural Horsemanship Student, November 11, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 101 Horsemanship Exercises (Hardcover)
This book is an excellent resource for the student of natural horsemanship. It gives an overview of philosophy and general knowledge. Where the book shines is in its detailed explaination of each exercise. Excellent illustrations are complemented by a very thorough discussion of body placement (for equine and handler) along with tips and ideas for common problem situations. This is a book that can be a valuable resouce in that it demystifies some of the techniques visually in a logical progressive order. I highly recommend it for the new and seasoned equine lover/trainer!
