Excellent - another must have.,

This review is from: 101 Jumping Exercises for Horse & Rider (Plastic Comb)
I haven't even finished reading this book yet, but I just have to say how fabulous it is. I have just started my youngster over fences and have found this guide invaluable already, with 25 exercises involving just ground poles, it is already well used. The exercises build up in difficulty so you are always making progress and at the same time having fun and educational schooling sessions with your horse. I think there is something for everyone, beginner to advanced.
As a budget conscious rider training predominantly on my own, I have found these types of guides priceless (see my other reviews) and they have really helped me to formulate a schooling plan each week and our progress has been very rewarding. I noticed that other riders at the barn were using the poles I left out in the arena and so I started posting the excercises on the bulleting board each week - inspiring everyone and creating great feedback and support. I know this is a book I will get a lot of use out of!

I bought the book originally to add some variety to my training sessions and to obtain ideas on different exercises. Now both my trainer and I do not jump without the book close by. The different grid exercises have added so much to our workouts! Not only has it helped our horses become more confident it has helped our equitation tremendously. I would highly recommend this book for both beginers and the more experienced rider!

Finally, a complete, comprehensive book of gymnastic exercises from the ground up - in an easy to use format! Great for someone aspiring to jump, as well as someone looking to improve their flatwork. If you can jump through all these gymnastics by the woman who designed the Jumping courses for the Atlanta Olympic Games, you are definitely headed in the right direction! Plus, the guest list includes three (multiple!) Gold medalists and other leading riders and trainers. A must have for the Equestrian library!

A Great Book To Keep In Your Tack Room!,

I have started to do some of these exercises with my Appaloosa gelding. He is ten, but has gone western the two years he has been trained and is very ignorant of english riding skills.
I have been doing these exercises with him, and it really worked! He is now on his way to being a confident jumper. It was pretty easy, too. We set up the cavaletti and cross-rail grids, and followed the patterns described. I am now proud to say I have a hunter in training. This book is highly reccomended to everyone; whether your horse is a confident jumper, or just learning, 101 Jumping Exercises For Horse And Rider is a great source to jumping exercises!

This is a step by step guide on working your horse through gymnastics. Both for the beginner, and the more advanced horse and rider. It reminds you of exersizes to help teach you and your horse. Worth the time to read.

Perfect book for the hunter/jumper,

I have a fairly green horse, and this book is an amazing help to getting her back and over fences. You can spend more time riding now, instead of having to always think up your own exercises. This book is well worth the money and I would invest in it in a heartbeat if I didn't already own it.

Brilliant diagrams, excellent keys, simply mapped out and laid out information for difficult and also the easiest of dressage manoevres. It's bound at the top for a vertical flip, with a hole punched down near the bottom so you can hang the book on a nail on your bulletin board or at home and keep it open while you study it. It has handy hints how to achieve positions and gives you ideas to improve certain flaws. It is by far the best book on jumping exercises I have read so far that is dedicated purely to jumping exercises.
Just about EVERY page has another full A4 riding arena on it showing the pattern where the horse is going, it shows crossbars and it shows trotting poles, verticals, gymnastics and where to place them, it shows where you should be directing your horse and what way to approach with an excellent use of diagrams and patterns which have a key right next to it so the design remains uncluttered and simple to read. It even gives you cheap alternatives to make some jumps yourselves and offers quick solutions. A best buy for anyone serious about jumping - or even dressage - to keep their horse supple and to keep their horse (and themselves!) from boredom. Brilliant.

This book breaks the demands or jumping down into a logical progression of skills until it takes the insecure beginning rider into a confident partner to the jumping horse. If these lessons are followed correctly, it can also take a training level horse into a skilled show jumper. This book is a must for anyone interested int he discipline of jumping.

Finally, a SUPER book written for those who desire to help train their own horses. Written by an expert course designer in the show jumping field, clinician, and also a one time competitor herself, Linda Allen has definitely proved she knows her "stuff" with her new book. I would definitely recommend this book for those of us who strive for competitive perfection. Keep up the good work - Linda - I can hardly wait for the next book!!!

Linda Allen puts many of her ideas into print and compiles some great exercises from other great horse folks. This is a book everyone can use! All the information is straight forward so anyone can understand them and use them without getting into trouble. I recommend it highly for anyone wanting to get the most out of their horses. Thanks Linda for putting this one together. |
