More Vegetarian Recipes,
This review is from: 101 More Things to do with a Slow Cooker (Spiral-bound)
Stephanie Ashcraft and Janet Eyring love to cook and also love teaching. They enjoy sharing their recipes and if you tried the recipes in their first book, this one might become another favorite cookbook. There are recipes for beverages, fondues, dips, soups, stews, vegetarian delights, turkey, chicken, beef, pork and desserts.
So, for everyone who wanted more vegetarian recipes you can now look forward to Zesty Bean Burritos, Corn on the Cob, Thanksgiving Dressing, Veggie Lasagna, Honey Wheat Bread and Cranberry-Orange Bread. Holiday Recipes: Christmas Hot Chocolate Raspberry-Chocolate-Caramel Fondue Apple Cider Turkey Sweet-and-Sour Meatballs Dulce De Leche (South American Caramel) The authors also give a list of helpful hints. Each recipes has a short list of ingredients and the instructions are so short you may think you are dreaming. They are divided up into sections for the steps, which is perfect. A few have extra tips at the end and some give serving suggestions. ~The Rebecca Review

Disappointing recipes,

This is a cute idea for a book, and its done with a nice format and layout. However my wife and I are disappointed with the recipes, as many of them rely on processed foods, canned soups, and powdered mixes for flavor. Some also require things to be cooked separately before being added to the pot, and/or use things like canned beans, and are not taking advantage of the crock pot cooking method in my opinion. Although we only tried one recipe for pasta with ground beef (and actually our one-year old liked it) I'm not sure we will make another recipe from this book.

I love my crock pot and I love this and her other slow cooker cook book. The recipes are easy and they have ingredients that I have in my pantry and I don't have to buy spices that I will only use once. I can not give enough praise to her simple family friendly recipes.

My fridge has never been so full of leftovers...and hubby & kids will eat ALL of them! I have yet to make a recipe in this book that isn't a hit and I'm about 1/3 of the way through the recipes. Incredibly simple ingredients, nothing absurd like 'cream of paprika' or 'ostrich meat' or 'South African parsley'...I am SO sick of recipe books that call for ingredients I've never heard of and cost a fortune. Everything comes from my regular grocery store, and most things I already had in my pantry.
The only downside (as others have mentioned) is that the recipes rely heavily on prepared foods. BUT, as busy as I get, without my slow cooker I end up making processed/boxed meals, doing take-out, or going out to eat & blowing the budget. So to me, this allows me to make home-cooked meals and save our wallet, which is a far better choice for my family. And I've found that using lower calorie packaged foods (healthy choice soups, fat free cheeses, etc) make little to no difference in the end quality of the recipe.

What a great book and a novel idea. I've only tried about 5-6 recipes, but they've all been absolutely delicious (if not in need of just a little more seasoning... my family likes it spicy!).
Thanks!

I have made two recipes from this cookbook and the first one, Grandma's Saucy Meat Loaf, was great!! The second one I made, Chicken and Dressing, was really disappointing. It came out really soupy and the stuffing was all bloated. I will try again because I think the idea is good but next time cut out the liquids. Since the first recipe turned out so well I am going to give some other recipes a try

Loved their first cookbook I purchased about 3 yrs ago; love the latest even more! I so don't like to cook much but with my Crock-Pot it makes it sooo easy, fun and we can have healthy tasty dishes! Since I was laid off from my job 3 yrs ago I use my Crock-Pot even more! (go figure!) I use it at least 3 times a week which also gives my husband and I some leftovers for another meal or two and this new cookbook has given me even more recipes to try and love. I am now hoping the authors will publish a third slow cooker cookbook and soon I want to try their other books! So easy, so convenient and tons of recipes that we actually love! Not to mention the house smells so good when my husband walks in from work for dinner! Thank you!
