With his overall collegiate mark of 1,083 wins, Bennett has established himself as one of baseball's all-time great coaches. He's been named The Sporting News NCAA Coach of the Year, and was head coach of the U.S. National Team in 1983 and 1986.

The purpose of any baseball drill should be to improve either a given skill or the general skill level of the ball player who is performing the drill. A good drill should relate closely to the actual skill that will be used in live game action. No drill should be used simply to keep the player busy, and no drill should be used that does not relate to the game of baseball. A pitcher who understands the purpose of the drill he is about to perform, as well as the drill's carryover to live action, will be more apt to perform it successfully.
