If you have a C4 you need this book!,
By Vette Jockey (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 101 Projects for Your Corvette 1984-1996 (Paperback)
When I got my C4 I read all the Vette mags and ads that told me "just add this miracle part and it will increase your horsepower by 200%".
This book tells you what works and what does not. It also tells you if you add this, you also need to change this. The book does not just tell you about hop-up projects. Most of the book tells you about the everyday things that you need to know if you are not rich. It tells you how to change light bulbs, suspension, interior, etc. This is a book you will use a lot as your car gets older. It will also save you a lot of money on hop-up projects because he will tell you which ones are marginal and those that work. Good Motoring

This book is an awesome addition to owning the factory service manuals. Great details and instructions on doing the things you need to do to keep your C4 in top condition from details to engine mods.

This is a good supplementary book to a Chilton's, Haynes, or Helm if you are a novice mechanic. It breaks simpler projects down in really simple terms and pictures for a first time mechanic or even a first time corvette owner. I think most of the information contained can be found on the internet or on forums, but the nice part is having it at your finger tips. It references instructions for quite a few jobs quite well...but for the complicated jobs it pretty much just tells you to take the car to your mechanic(steering wheel mounted blinker/highbeam failure) Overall this is a good supplementary book to owning a C4 Corvette and well worth the money. It's a great fingertip reference and a good general maintenance reference too. It tells you about the cheaper performance modifications and what REALLY works and what doesn't and what is appropriate for the associate expense. If you have a C4 and are new to Corvette ownership I'd say this is a must buy.

Book has many great ideas, but is lacking specific details. For instance: you can replace your weather stripping however there are no details as to how to do it.

To Amazon customers interested in this book:
As a new owner of a '95 LT1, this book is a great resource. In fact, one paragraph I read alone was worth the price of this entire book. I am a member of many Corvette forums, and I frequent the boards often. What this means is that I keep up with a wealth of knowledge available to you for free, yet this book has some great tips. The tip that was worth the entire book, had to do the braking system on my car. The brakes squeaked quite a bit, and on the Corvette forums many members are talking about how the braking system isn't strong. In fact, there is even a C4 to C5 brake conversion out there. What's interesting is that in this book, I found out why brakes seem weak. My brakes were always fine and gave me confidence. However, if you let the parking brake sit without constantly using it, the rear brakes will go out of alignment and stopping power is reduced due to full stopping power relying only on the front brakes. I followed the tip about using the parking brake, and immediately braking was smoother, and much less squeaking. Great book, highly recommend it if you are interested in maintenance, restoration, and/or modding your Corvette. As ever, Will

Disappointed with the projects listed in the book,

The projects listed in this book could be found in any service manual. And a true service manual would have done a better, more professional job describing the required step to complete the task. I expected 101 unique projects not a book of normal routine maintanence items

This book is a bit aged but makes for some good reading. Not a substitute for the factory manual for these cars.

This is a great book for the weekend mechanic and the C4 series Corvette lover. I have enjoyed just thumbing through it and found it useful for my project work.

This book gives you a good view of what you can do to the C4. It deals with the cars small issues, and gives you a good idea where to go and what to expect. It explains how hard it is to improve on GMs design here, as for suspention its tuff to out due it. But it spends little time on imporatant things like heads, cams, and intakes. More it spends much of the time talking about how the aftermarket is shadey, and what you can't improve on. So its info is great, but its drab. The author is just trying to get the truth across, but there still very little to excite you about. So if you own a C4, this is a good book for info but nothing else. And much of it I already knew. So for me this book was kind of worth it, but I could have lived without it.
