The questions that Father Evans answers are the ones that he's most frequently asked about this topic and they run the gamut from conceptual subjects such as "sanctity," "beatification," and "martyrdom" to more practical aspects like the canonization process, litugrical practices, religous art, and relics. Father Evans maintains the conversational tone this format requires and, although the book is divided into chapters, the questions flow smoothly from one topic to the next. However, the author is rather vague about canonization, hagiography, and some of the hisrorical questions. Also, he could have mixed in some antecdotes about particular saints to add color to the duller portions of the book.
However, it would be unfair to deduct too many points for that. This book is the 27th volume of the "101 Q&A" series on religous topics from the Catholic publishing firm Paulist Press (see my other reviews). Some reviewers have criticized some of the previous volumes for not being more "in-depth." This is unfair because these books are meant to be introductory giving the reader background information on the subject. The intended audience are those who have an interest in the subject but little knowledge. It is supposed to be the first book one reads on the topic, not the last and certainly not the only book! It's purpose is to entice the reader to pursue further study. "101 Questions and Answers on Saints" does just that.
