This review is from: 101 Spanish Proverbs (Paperback)
Spanish proverbs are translated to their close equivalents in English and demonstrated in a short dialogue. Cartoon drawings enhance understanding of the saying. The short dialogue that follows the translation is a real aid in understanding how the phrase is used in day to day conversation. My only concern is that the casual reader or student may be misled into thinking these proverbs are universal in the Spanish language. Indeed, the forward describes the proverbs as those "most familiar to and most frequently used by native speakers of Spanish." If these proverbs were collected from many parts of the Hispanic world, it would have been helpful to have included the name of the country on the page with the proverb. My feeling is that a great majority, if not all of the proverbs, come from Spain. I have heard some of them used by professors who studied in Spain. I hesitate to recommend it strongly if the reader plans to travel in Mexico, Central or South America.

This review is from: 101 Spanish Proverbs (Paperback)
I found this collection to be very helpful. The Spanish proverb is first translated literally and then into the equivalent English proverb. It is then used within a short story which is apropos. I definitely recommend this entertaining and useful booklet.
