What!? You don't have any Blues music in that collection of yours? Hurry up and hit that download button because this is a fantastic starting point. There are great examples of every style, some songs you've heard before and some you haven't, almost every track is a home run. These are old recordings, so the dynamic range is a little low, but they've been cleaned up nicely and sound great. This is an outstanding value (worth it for the Elmore James recordings alone). What are you waiting for?

This is a lot of great blues here, and is easy to recommend this album to anyone looking to explore some of the best blues around.

There are many tunes here that are among the definitive statements of some of the great all-time blues musicians. For instance:
Mannish Boy - Muddy Waters
Smokestack Lightnin' - Howlin' Wolf
Dust My Broom - Elmore James
Sweet Home Chicago - Robert Johnson
Little Red Rooster - Howlin' Wolf
Crawlin' King Snake - Big Joe Williams
Boom Boom - John Lee Hooker (although "Boogie Chillen" would have been even more definitive)

There is some music here that I would classify more as R&B than blues, but is still awesome and really significant, like "Bo Diddley" by Bo Diddley, or any of the terrific classics by Ray Charles featured here ("Hit the Road Jack", "What'd I Say" and "Unchain My Heart").

Some music is great but has become famous for other reasons, like "I Put a Spell On You" from Screamin' Jay Hawkins, which gained notoriety mainly after it featured prominently in the film "Stranger Than Paradise". And there is a ton of other great blues here.

We could all quibble with the selections. For example: Only one Robert Johnson track? And where's Leadbelly?

But the bottom line is this is a fine set and a fine bargain. Warmly recommended.

This album gives you 101 blues songs, some you might have heard many you will hear for the first time. I purchased this because I wanted to hear the different types of blues styles. This album should cost more, buy it you will not be disappointed.

"Boys, you've got to learn not to talk to nuns that way" was probably my introduction to the blues. John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd introduced a generation to the music they loved so much they had to form a band, make a movie, create a concert venue and a weekly radio show dedicated to preserving and celebrating it. This collection is about as good as it gets in introducing one to that music. It is just loaded with incredible blues tunes.

Paid 3 bucks for this album! Best 3 bucks you'll ever spend. The Howlin' Wolf songs alone are worth more than 3 dollars! Do yourself a favor and buy this, you won't be disappointed.

A great mix you can listen to over and over and hear something new each time. Some I haven't heard before...especially "Get Back" by Big Bill Broonzy. If you aren't familiar with it, be sure to research it....very interesting.
