I couldn't wait until my copy of this book arrived at my library so that I could start showing it off to all my favorite patrons. With beautiful photographs, the unusual but always upbeat 101 entries are for things like, "Plan the perfect vacation to someplace exotic," and "Celebrate a holiday for a culture not your own." For entries such as, "See a big race," times and addresses of everything from NASCAR to the Iditarod are given; for the entry, "See a meteor shower," the page includes when meteors can most likely be seen in the United States. It's a book about how to enjoy the world and the people around us. I just don't know why the cut-off is set at 12.

I bought this for my daughters 9th birthday. This book opens minds to activities that you might not think of doing. This book is for the active families that enjoy getting out and doing new and interesting things. It comes with stickers that you put on the activity. The stickers say things like Love IT, Just Gotta, Mission Accomplished, Top 20, This Rocks, Ho Hum, Way Weird, Never Ever. This is a great gift for both boys and girls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review from Books That Heal Kids, July 15, 2010
This review is from: 101 Things You Gotta Do Before You're 12! (Paperback)
Every kiddo under the age of 12 needs this book. They are super duper cool. Recently, I was at a friend's house and her 8 year old daughter was immersed in a book for most of the evening. I asked her what she was reading - 101 Things To Do Before You're 12! It was so sweet to hear her talk about the things she wanted to do that were inspired by the ideas in the book. And guess what - these are POSITIVE FAMILY VALUE ideas (oh, and they are fun and creative). How can you not love that?!? The point is it gets kids thinking and brainstorming about POSITIVE (I'll say it again) things to do in their lives. Bye bye video games, TV, and computer. Children need healthy outlets that provide motivation and inspiration. These are fabulous gifts and parents will thank you and kids will LOVE them. My nieces and nephews will all get copies for sure. Boredom be gone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Family Adventures for Kids and Parents, August 20, 2011
This review is from: 101 Things You Gotta Do Before You're 12! (Paperback)
101 Things You Gotta do Before You're 12 is a fun book about child and family adventure. It serves as a guide of rediscovery and a guide for future planning. It helps parents and children discover new and exciting things to do that they may never have considered before and it also serves as an activity book complete with stickers so that kids can identify their favorite and least favorite events/activities.

This book is all about doing things and it is one of a few titles available in the 101 book series. The book includes a listing from one through one- hundred and one, in no particular order, offering suggestions on fun, entertaining, and educational activities for kids that will stretch their knowledge and induce a spirit of fun and adventure.

One of the many things I like about this book is that it keeps its destinations on a general level so that kids can find something that matches each of the 101 suggestions, regardless of where they live. Rather than specifically recommend, say, going to the Indianapolis 500, the book makes this and other entries general by simply recommending that you and your kids "See a Great Race." It can be any race and that means that, no matter where you live, you should have no problem finding something within a few hours drive of your home. In fact, some of the 101 activities are things your kids can do at home so there should be no problem taking part in the majority of the activities in this guide.

To help readers in their quest to partake in each adventure, this book often includes lists, where appropriate, of possible specific activities. For instance, one of the listings recommends walking on a swinging bridge. Many families are likely unaware of any swinging bridges in the area, so the book provides some assistance by listing seven specific, well- known swinging bridges, just in case you happen to be near one, along with a web site you can visit to find other swinging bridges in your area. Many other listings include similar information.

Finding acitivities is one important part of this book, but there is more. The book is also about the stickers- several pages of included stickers that let kids label each activity to express their feelings about it. The stickers include a few words to describe places they have already been (like "loved it" or "this rocks") and places they would like to go (like "just gotta"). There are plenty of included stickers so that more than one child can express an opposing view.

Travel is an important part of our family life and 101 Things You Gotta do Before You're 12 is a very good book that my kids and I both like for slightly different reasons. They love the stickers and reminiscing about places they have been while I like the book more for its suggestions for family adventure. It is a fun book from which kids and parents can share, plan, remember, and learn.

Bought this for my own family, loved it so much, I bought a second as a gift for a friend. I found that most of the 101 things to do were very realistic, had much learning value, and the kids are using it to have a lot of fun! Don't just put this on a shelf...keep this book handy...you'll use it!

Great book for planning activities for children. I bought it for my 3 year old grandson, and I am very impressed with the broad range of ideas and the beautiful pictures. It is very well organized. I bought 3 more and got another one free through an Amazon sale. They make great gift books for young children.

5.0 out of 5 stars One book to help you choose 101 things to do!, March 21, 2011

This review is from: 101 Things You Gotta Do Before You're 12! (Paperback)
I got this as a family Christmas present. I thought it would be fun for all of us to use to "revisit" some of our favorite places we have been and things we have done and I was right! Every age enjoyed the creative ideas, the beautiful photography and the chance to mark those things we want to put on our "to do list." No, I'm not 12 but hopefully I can cover a great many of the places and things to experience long before my children turn 12. What was really exciting for the 5 year old was testing her memory (and ours too) to mark those things we had already done. Even more fun was placing the stickers on those we love, want to do again and absolutely must try. This book doesn't sit on a bookshelf but on our coffee table in the family room so we can visit it again and again - which reminds me I need to update it since we just got back from a Spring Break vacation! Unique ideas, creative, beautifully illustrated, well constructed and great fun for all ages. One of the best books in my "library."
