Book Description

So you’re a black belt, bodybuilder and think you have all the skills it takes to be a bouncer, huh?

Well you may make a great ‘bouncer’, but if you want to become a professional ‘crowd controller’ who can handle situations effortlessly and with as little violence as possible then you are intelligent enough to recognize the importance of mastering the techniques in this book.

With the nightlife industry becoming so heavily regulated and more and more venues taking a hard line on their ‘no hit’ policies, the nightlife security industry has dramatically changed since the old days of gorilla bouncers throwing people into trash bins, and therefore by necessity new skills have evolved.

The author has over a decade of experience in the security industry and set out on a quest to codify the most workable techniques in nightlife security and educate others on their use to handle situations effectively, but with as little violence as possible. The author credits his background as a lawyer with many grueling years of experience in dispute resolution as his influence for many of the techniques outlined in this book which require a subtle, yet highly effective method of gaining compliance in oppositional situations.

This book is the culmination of many years of trial and error by the author in learning the most practical and workable techniques of crowd control and learning from the wisdom of veteran security professionals and police officers.

These time-tested techniques have been specifically designed for kindle readers in an easy to learn format of 101 tips, which can be accessed through an interactive contents page for fast access in those times when you find yourself hiding in the bathroom wondering why on earth you ever got into this industry.

Just a few techniques you will learn in this book include:

- Canned routines from experienced crowd controllers on how to refuse people entry and conduct evictions which are easy to learn and put into practice;

- Multiple ways to gain leverage in confronting situations by using your environment; and

- How to control situations verbally and use a little known ‘Jedi trick’ which demands compliance.

Editorial Reviews

"This is a fabulous Book.
I wish I'd had it twenty years ago. How much hassle I could have avoided.
The words are informed, empirical and in places profound.
This is the 'door' bible for a new age.
Highly recommended."
Geoff Thompson - Author of Dead or Alive: The Choice is Yours and veteran ex-doorman

"Darren's book is a must read for anyone either working the doors or considering working the doors. It shows quite clearly that using violence need not be an option in almost every single violent or aggressive situation; there is, instead, a wealth of other techniques and options available to the street-wise doorman, or woman. If you want to survive in the industry, and go home happy after work each and every night, then don't work the doors without reading this little book."
Robin Barratt, author, writer and former old-school doorman

About the Author

5.0 out of 5 stars A soft centred approach to the hard nut world April 5, 2013
From the swamp of pre-history, psychology has been stronger than any muscle. Oddly, primitive violence is still a force in our societies, both in its physical manifestation and in our fantasy media diet. This is a book not about being a bouncer - but about being a psychologist. Darren Lee has been there. His knowledge is not from books or colleges. Even so, his insights into managing the ego of Annoying Intoxicated Persons (AIPS) are worthy of any university education in people management at any level. Most of us have never contemplated a career as a nightclub bouncer. Many folk would simply not have the balls to confront those scenarios. What we have here is a straightforward book of plain advice and tips on how to handle people. Not a single punch is thrown in this book and indeed, the book would fail in its premise if this were to be so. Whether you are planning to be a crowd controller or you are a student of applied psychology, this book is for you. OK - someone wants to fight you in a club - you can probably come up with some options...but can you get the troublemaker outside, avoid the fight and still have a good laugh? This book doesn't tell you how to do everything - but it tells you that you can if you act with intention. This book is an insight into a truly professional world that few of us consider. These guys are in the bars, clubs and venues every night, facing opposition and aggression.Few readers could not learn a few wrinkles from this text.

I found this book easy to read and relate too. Each point is conveyed in a simple manner and backed up with examples of how to use/apply where necessary. It was effective at stressing the most important tips to manage patrons and crowds without being an 'information overload'.
