About the Author

In her 27th year at the helm of the Jennies, Peggy Martin is not only the dean of Central Missouri State University's coaching staff, but also the winningest active volleyball coach on the NCAA Division II level.

Martin's 892-229-8 record entering the 2003 campaign makes her the winningest coach in the Division II volleyball ranks, while her .794 winning percentage is third among active head coaches on the Division II level.

Under Martin's guidance, the Jennies have won at least 25 matches for 25 straight seasons and have claimed, or shared, 19 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association crowns since the league began sponsoring the sport in 1982. Her teams have also made 20 NCAA Tournament appearances in a row, the most in Division II history, and have reached the "Elite Eight" six times, highlighted by a runner-up national showing in 1987.

For her efforts, Martin has been chosen MIAA or Missouri AIAW State Coach of the Year a total of 15 times and AVCA South Central Region Coach of the Year on six occasions. She was selected as AVCA Division II National Coach of the Year in 1987 after directing the Jennies to their second-place NCAA Tournament finish and a 42-4.

4.0 out of 5 stars You can never have enough drills!, November 2, 2000

This review is from: 101 Volleyball Drills (Paperback)
Peggy Martin's book has been a valuable addition to my arsenal of drills, because I believe a coach can never have access to too many drills. It's important for players to get a feel for a skill by attacking it in a number of different ways, and using several drills in sequence allows players to continue working on the skill without getting bored, which is important to the learning process.

Adding Peggy Martin's "101 Volleyball Drills" to my library has helped keep my high school players on task without putting their minds to sleep.

4.0 out of 5 stars Drills, drills, and more drills, July 12, 2001

This review is from: 101 Volleyball Drills (Paperback)
Coach Martin is a hoot. I had the pleasure of sitting in a session in a coaches seminar where she was one of the featured speakers. She is energetic, smart, entertaining and knows a whole lot about volleyball. She is the head women's coach at Central Missouri Stat U and has been there since forever.

The problem is that it is really difficult to translate all that she embodies into a book. Don't get me wrong, the drills are awesome and they are presented nicely, but that is what you would expect from a drill book. But, the sense of fun, the way she conveys the knowledge, that is kind of lost in the translation. The main thing I like about this is that the skill level progresses with each drill. So if you are dying for some new drills, here is a bunch, but make sure that they suit your needs. Another good point is that these drills are easily adaptable, so it is easy for coaches to change them to fit their own needs.

I just wish they could package Coach Martin's dynamic personality and enthousiasm into a book. Oh well....

4.0 out of 5 stars Many Drills, August 23, 2007
By
JV VB Coach (Louisville, KY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 101 Volleyball Drills (Paperback)
I use many of these drills for my Freshman and JV teams. A lot of them are too complicated for this level but would proabably be good for advanced club teams, varsity and college. This is a good resource for coaches at all levels.
