Nice, Efficient and Expensive,

This review is from: GE 10409 LED Light Fixture 18-Inch Linkable Aluminum (Tools & Home Improvement)
I just installed/hardwired 3 of these undercabinet in a kitchen remodel and really like the way they produce a significant volume of light at minimal power usage (~ 6 watts per fixture).
Note that these fixtures can be hardwired in but require an optional wiring box/kit that has to be purchased seperately (~$8). Surprizingly I got the best price as well as the wiring kits over the counter at a major home store(HD). I would have given these 5 stars except for the "premium" pricing set by the manufacturer.

Great fixture if a bit expensive,

I picked this up recently as a replacement for more energy hungry xenon under-cabinet lights. The unit seems solid/well constructed. It has 4 LED bulbs in it. When I first saw this, I was concerned that the light output would be too low but these bulbs REALLY crank out the lumens and only uses 6 watts: an 8th of the unit it replaced! It's plenty bright and the color is very warm - very close to the Xenon unit it replaced and not the 'cold' white LED color I was concerned about. Installation is a snap: drill two mounting holes with included template, put screws in, slide on fixture, plug in and you're done. The units can be daisy-chained as well and the package includes a cord to do this. I only gave it 4 stars as it is very expensive - I would have thought $30-40 would be a fairer price for this.... but I do like it a lot.

GE, Why hast though forsaken me?,

This is a copy of the review that I wrote for the GE 10408 LED Light Fixture 12-Inch Linkable Aluminum light fixture.
This is the 18-inch three-LED under-cabinet light fixture. In all, I needed five of the 18-inch and two of the 12-inch fixtures for my kitchen cabinets, as the existing 20+ year-old fluorescent under-cabinet fixtures were getting long in the tooth. I found five of the 18-inch fixtures from an eBay seller, as this Amazon merchant had only one to sell. And, I got the last two 12-inch fixtures that remained in the local store (marked down to under $45 each because they were discontinued). This is a wonderful fixture, very fairly priced, considering the pricing of other ***bright*** LED units on the market (other lower-priced, but more dimly-illuminating fixtures can be found, but I rule them out). I have tried out one of the 12-inch fixtures, and find that it casts really bright, white-light illumination under the cabinets, much brighter and more pleasing than the fluorescent fixtures. I am awaiting the eBay shipment before doing the complete installation to replace existing fluorescent fixtures. [Note: for permanent wiring, you need a $7 junction box that transitions from the house wiring to the GE linking cord, but these are easily obtained from stores that sell GE undercounting lighting, as they are common to the complete line of linkable lights: fluorescent, Xenon and halogen units included.] The point of all this: my major concern is how long these LED fixtures, or more precisely, the LEDs in them, will last, because GE apparently no longer offers them, and replacements would not be available. Therefore, the subject of this review: "GE, Why hast thou forsaken me?" ADDED NOTE (Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010): My eBay shipment arrived Thursday mid-morning, and I spent about eight hours removing the seven fluorescent fixtures, figuring out how the wiring was installed, re-wiring the GE junction boxes, and, finally installing the seven GE LED fixtures. Unlike the skyscraper window washer who stepped back to admire his work, I could do so without risk to life and limb. ;-) And, the the results were wonderfully pleasing. Bright, warm illumination that classed up the kitchen counter areas and gave the kitchen a much more up-to-date look. To say that I am very pleased would be an understatement.
