Rear-wheel drive self-propelled mowers are usually much more expensive than this. Great for lawns with any kind of incline, which render front-wheel drive mowers useless. I had it out of the box and cutting grass within 5 minutes. Starts the first time, every time, with an easy pull, no-prime starter. The throttle bar kills the engine extra-fast, so extremely safe. The self-propel bar has variable speeds, which is very handy for tight turns. At full speed, you almost have to trot behind the mower to keep up, so not for people with limited mobility. I don't even mind the 20" deck... those 2 extra inches aren't worth the price difference. My ONLY complaint so far is that the mower has trouble moving even slightly damp (or very thick) grass into the rear bag. It tends to clog up at the rear of the mower and mulch, causing you to stop, remove the bag and physically pull the clogged grass out the back of the mower. This isn't a problem if the grass being cut is dry and only reasonably long. But I've talked to friends with Toros and Craftsman mowers who have the exact same problem, so I can't really fault Lawn Boy.

$259 is a great price for a quality product featuring rear-wheel self-propulsion.

After my last mower bit the bullet, I decided it was time to buy a new one. I'm normally the type of person to buy something used and fix it, as it is cheaper most of the time so this was a new expierence. I found the Lawn Boy, for a deal, on Amazon but the first one that popped up was the Briggs & Stratton one but i've never been a fan of Briggs because of their cheap construction. Well to my surprise, they had the same mower with the Kohler down in the related items. I've worked on a lot of Kohlers and love their construction. Well, after a lot of time and research, I came to the conclusion that this was the right mower for what I wanted. The only thing that I fought with myself about it was whether I wanted the self propelled or not. It was only $20 more for the option but I figured for that price, it was going to be a garbage kind of option. I ended up getting the self propelled anyways because I also figured that if it was a bad design, I could try and find a way to beef it up since i'm a tinkerer. Well needless to say, the option works great minus the fact that I had to adjust the cable a bit out of the box to make it work correctly. Now if you pull the lever too quickly, the mower will actually spin the tires and try to run away from you. lol! Another thing I was plesantly surprised with was the fact of how easy it is to pull start. Feels like the engine is broke or it has no compression, it's that easy. Also, it normally starts on the first pull even when it's cold. There isn't a manual choke (all automatic) or a primer ball to have to press either so you don't have to do anything except squeeze the kill lever safety switch and pull the rope. The engine has plenty of power and I haven't killed it yet while cutting (which my old 6.25 HP craftsman liked to do a lot) the tall grass in my back yard. The only down side I have noticed is that the grass bag fills up too quickly. I'm trying to attribute it to the mower doing such a great job at picking up the grass clippings but I honestly think that the bag could be a bit larger. The mower works great as a vacuum also. I use it to clean up small sticks and leaves that litter my driveway so I can save sweeping or spraying them off with water. All in all, I think that it was an awesome deal for the money and I wouldn't change a thing if I had to do it all over again. Very satisfied.

First up, the only reason I didn't give this mower 5 stars is because I've never owned another mower so I have nothing to compare it to. But, overall, as the first mower I've ever owned this Lawn Boy is perfect!

I bought this mower from the store and had it oiled, gassed, and running in less than 15 minutes after I got it home. The oil came in the box, which was a nice. All I had to buy in addition to the mower itself was gasoline. The assembly instructions were easy to follow.

There are about 7 different length settings to use, so no matter how long or short you want your grass, this mower can handle it. My back lawn is about 60x30--which is a nice size--and it has a slight slope and uneven terrain. This mower attacks every inch of my lawn perfectly! Even around the trees. The rear wheel drive and self-propelling makes coming up the hill very easy. I can actually drive the mower with one hand when I'm using the self-propelling lever. And it doesn't move so fast that I have to run. I can keep up with the mower with just a slightly accelerated walk.

The mower starts on the first pull every single time I use it. And the controls (gas and self-propelling) are extremely easy to hold on too. They don't require a lot of extra strength. The bag is easy to take on and off, and (again) the self-propelling really comes in handy when I use the bag because grass clippings can get really heavy. With the self-propelling I don't have to tire myself out moving the mower around. The mower literally does all the work and I just guide it.

I recommend this mower to any first time buyer if you want a good mower for not a lot of money and you have a medium-to-large sized lawn. I wouldn't recommend for small lawns because it's a little bulky and difficult to turn in tight spots. But $260 is well worth it for what you get and I think you'll be satisfied.

The mower came with a cosmetic scuff, but it was not worth the hassle of sending it back. It is light weight and easy to maneuver, a consistent trait of Lawn Boy products. It is capable enough on the incline of our lawn, a prime consideration of any mower we buy. If you have a lawn with an incline, make sure to get a mower with rear wheel drive. This mower is a rear wheel drive. It is not nearly as good at mulching as the Honda mower which preceded this purchase. Weight and maneuverability are the 2 biggest assets this mower has.

I read a lot of reviews and make purchases based on the reviews. I ordered this mower and can say it is definitely worth the money. Quick shipping and packed well. However, one of the wheel height adjusters was bent upon arrival. Easy fix! Put gas and oil as directed, pulled cord and off to mow the yard! The self propelled works well and definitely worth the 20 bucks. I have only used 2 times so far but I have no complaints! Hope this helps!

First let me preface my review by saying I was replacing a 2 stroke Lawnboy I bought in 1995.This was self propelled,bag-mulch-chute.At that time I paid about $350.So when it came time to replace it, I looked to Lawnboy again.I also checked out a few others. My requierments were self propelled via REAR wheels and 3 way clipping dispersion.I picked the Lawnboy 10604.It had all I needed and the cost was VERY reasonable.
Now my review. The engine and its ease of starting is excellent! Started right out of box, after fuel and oil were added. And,the engine seems very stout, tackles my 1/3 acre with ease.
The down side, the adjustments and handles seem a little weak.As a matter of fact ,one of the height adjusters was bent a little during shipping.
All in all,for the price,as of right now,in my yard, this cannot be beat.

The lawnmower rates a five but i had to take a star off for the bent wheel height adjuster which broke off when i bent it back. Contacted Amazon and I am waiting for their response. Starts extreemly easy. The mower is quiet and mulches very well. Even damp grass unlike some other reviewers have said.great value just fix the packaging Amazon.

This is a very nice mower for small yards or trimming. We have a lawn tractor for the big areas. It starts on the first pull and no choke to mess with. Two wheel rear wheel drive has good traction. If you don't want to bag or mulch clippings, when you fill out you product warranty, you can request a free adapter that throws clippings out the left rear.

Received this Lawn-Boy self propelled mower a few weeks ago. Easy set up right out of box - just added oil and gas and I was mowing in just a few minutes. Mower started on first pull and mowed absolutely wonderful! Have used it 4 times so far and everytime has done a great job. My yard has a very steep hill in the back and it climbed right up it with no problem at all. This mower is replacing an 4 year old Honda HHR self propelled mower that failed this year. If this mower holds up over time, it will be probably my favorite mower yet. Well worth the money!

I've had a Lawn Boy mower prior to this one and loved it, so I bought this one. The first one that I received had a bent front wheel. I called Amazon and they shipped me a replacement overnight at no expense to me; they had me return the damaged machine also at no expense to me.

The second mower that I received I was able to put together easily enough with only one problem. Like others that have written reviews of this mower the grass height adjustment teeth were too straight and didn't grab to ensure the height adjustment; I bent the teeth on the back wheel adjustments enough to grab and then I was set to go. The mower cuts and mulches fine, no clumping of grass. It starts easily too.

I have three complaints/preferences: First, the handle height and angle are fixed and for my height it's an awkward angle for me; I'd like it to be lowered. I looked at the manual but saw nothing to adjust this height/angle. I looked at the machine but again it appears to me that the height and angle are fixed. Secondly, the mower is very light in weight and I have an uneven lawn which means that the mower bounces all over the place while I mow; my previous Lawn Boy was a heavier machine, no bounce. Lastly, this is a 20" wide machine where the previous Lawn Boy was 22", I like the 22" better.

As I said this mower does cut and mulch nicely and for the money and my needs I would most likely buy it again.
