Virtually brand new, now I have to carry it to a repair shop and pay someone to cut grass until I get it back.

This lawn boy replaces a 38 year old 2cycle(mix gas and oil) lawn boy. I surely don't expect this one to last anywhere near as long but it does have a useable warranty, and great features. What I like most about the model 10605 is the blade brake which allows you to walk away from the mower with the engine still running. This feature is usually found on much more expensive mowers. The mower itself is very competant at cutting grass or chewing up small lawn debris.
One pull on the starter gets it going and the governor keeps the engine speed right where it's needed. As soon as you encounter higher grass the engine speed increases.
And the self propelled system works great.

I read a review here complaining about power. This thing has more power than I need, and if I hold down the propel lever all the way it actually pulls me...up hill! I really can't think of a situation where I would need more power.

Couldn't have been easier to setup, take it out of box, add oil which is included, and gas and start it up on first pull. It's so easy to pull the cord and it starts right up. The engine has plenty of power but runs smooth and quit. The levers are easy to use and it propels nicely. I was hesitant about buying after reading the ONE review complaining so loudly about how it doesn't have enough power. With the bargain price, and all the features I was worried it really wouldn't have enough power but took the chance anyway and couldn't be happier. My advice would be if you are looking for a self propelled mower to try this one first.
The bag is on the small side. I don't bag my lawn clippings I mulch but if you bag I thought it might be worth mentioning, might have to empty more often than your current mower.

I've had this mower for a couple of months now and have used it on a weekly basis. I have to say that I am very happy with it to date. It has plenty of power to cut through grass, even if you neglected to cut it for a week and it's longer than it should be. I've had no issues at all using this self propelled mower on hilly areas either.

Another thing to mention is that this mower is fairly quiet, as mowers go. I have no problems hearing people talking to me from several feet away. The blade override system is probably the feature I like the most as I do not need to restart the mower every time I walk away from it. Overall, I am very pleased with the features and the build quality of this mower, and have ansolutely no regrets.

The one thing that people may need pointed out to them is that there is no side discharge on this mower. This is not an issue for me as I mulch most of the times, and bag the rest of the times (if grass got too long). However, it may be an issue for some.

I bought this to replace a 22 inch Toro Recycler 20068 that was stolen. I wanted self propelled, blade brake, and cheap. This was it. I was aprehensive about the 20 inch vs 22 inch cut, and the size of this 149cc Kohler engine being fast and powerful enough compared to the Toro's B&S 190cc side valve. I mow a 1/4 acre lot and use this to do clean up work after a riding mower on a 1/2 acre lot. The good: The Kohler starts very easy, is quiet, and smooth. It cuts well, not getting bogged down in tall grass (reasonably tall), and the ground speed is as fast as I want to go behind it, not much difference vs. the Toro 20068 it replaced. I did have to adjust the self propel cable to get the ground speed however. I can't say that the 20 inch cut takes any longer to finish mowing than the 22 inch did, probably because it is more manuverable than the 22 inch. The bad: This is without a doubt the flimsiest deck I have ever seen on a lawn mower. Not sure how long it will hold up. You don't want to buy this if a careless teenager will be using it. Also, the Amazon description says this is a 3 in 1 mower. Wrong, there is NO side discharge. Not a big deal for me because I only mulch. I give this mower 3 stars because of features and price with the caveat that this is a cheap mower. If not for the features and price I would give it 2 stars because of the deck. If the deck were sturdier I would give it 4 stars. Anyone buying a mower with these features at this price should realize that you get what you pay for. It's kind of a shame to see the Lawn Boy name on a mower like this. The durability and quality can't compare to a $600.00 dollar mower. Overall I am pleased with the purchase, but only time will tell if it was the right purchase.Read more ›

The Kohler engine starts VERY easy (2 yanks, tops), runs smooth, and has decent power. It sounds like it runs at less than the typical 3600 RPM speed, which helps keep the noise down (particularly when the blade is disengaged). The muffler also does a very good job.

I also like the extra-large fuel tank filler - Makes it easy to insert one of those goofy CARB-compliant gas can nozzles.

The forward speed is pretty easy to regulate with the lower lever on the handle - Fully depressing it makes the tires do a little "burn out" on a hard surface! At full forward speed, you move briskly. As a safety feature, the forward drive mechanism slips when the mower encounters immovable objects. It also slips on sharp uphill climbs, requiring some help from the operator.

The blade shut-off is a NICE feature - encourages you to stop and retrieve foreign objects, rather than simply "taking a gamble" on running over them.

I'd like to see a fuel shut-off valve, particularly since my mower is stored in a garage - Would hate to find a puddle of gas on the floor if the carb float valve ever leaks!

I couldn't find an oil drain plug on bottom of the mower deck, so I'm tipping the entire mower on its side to drain the oil out of the filler neck - Not an ideal situation. The top-mounted filler neck (complete with dipstick) is a nice touch - Makes it VERY easy to check or add oil.

Overall, it's a very good mower, particularly for the price. I'd definitely buy one again.
