Fantastic mower for the price,

The first reviewer must be inexperienced when using a self propelled lawnmower. The mower IS variable speed and will go as slowly as you want it to. I own this mower and have used many mowers over the past 30 plus years. The speed is controlled by how much you depress/squeeze the bail, which activates the drive system. The bail is like the accelerator on your car or truck. You can press on the gas pedal a little and barely move the vehicle, or you can stomp the pedal and really move on. For the price, this lawnmower can't be beat.

I have used this mower a few times now and love it. I don't mow my lawns on a regular basis. I usually wait for it to get about 6 inches high first. I used this mower without the bag utilizing it's mulching capabilities. It was able to digest the tall grass as well as all the leaves I neglected to rake up first. I had no trouble starting it even after it had been sitting for a while without fuel additives. The self propelling action took a bit of time for me to get used to(Dad always bought the crappy push mowers)but works great. I actually don't mind mowing the lawn now. Well yeah, I guess I still hate it.

Relatively quiet, pretty fair power. Does not bog down too badly on thick grass. The speed if the drive is variable, and works over a pretty wide range of speeds. My wheel level adjusts were damaged in shipping, but bent them back into place and ready to go. Looks like the enamel finish on the body of the mower is a pretty fair coat, and will hopefully fend of rust for a while. Rest of the covers are the standard platic used everywhere nowadays. Now just to see how well it wears.

Have only used it twice so far, but I am very happy with it. Easier to manuever in tight spaces and to control speed than my previous Honda and fires up easier to. Fired up immediately on the first pull with out having to deal with any chokes or primers. Cut very cleanly and bagged leaves and twigseasily in one pass. Covers all the bases for me.

I was pleased with the ordering, price, fast delivery, and performance of this lawn mower. It came right to my front door, was easy to assemble, and even had the crankcase oil enclosed. The self-propelled feature is a major improvement from my last mower, as I have an incline on my front yard. Overall all I would rate this an excellent experience.

It was pretty good. Easy to assemble. Started right up. Very quiet. I guess pretty clean because I detected very little exhaust gases. However, I must say it didn't seem as powerful as a small mower with that HP should be. In fact, I found that in tough conditions it worked better as a push mower. For one thing I think there is not enough gap between the tip of the blade and the side of the deck. As a result, it doesn't take much wet grass to stall the engine. A somewhat shorter blade would avoid this problem. It also is somewhat flimsy. Lots of plastic. I doubt this will last 10 years like my last Craftsman. The discharge chute (in the rear, never a good idea) is very small and clogs up constantly. The catch bag is of virtually no use. Finally, the mower moves way too fast at full throttle. You practically have to run to keep up with it, yelling "write if you get work" or "sorry about the grass being so high". I digress. But surely there's no way it could be doing a good job cutting at that speed. If they had merely geared the wheels down a bit it would have helped. As it is, you have to let the bail out (a pain) to throttle it down; but at least you can do that. This is a light duty mower, probably best for warm season grass lawns. Fine for what it is, but a far cry from the Lawn Boy my father had. ooo... that hurts. Actually, it's great for the price. Enjoy, just get your running shoes on.

First of all I am a lady and I purchased this mower because it was self-propelled. I didn't know it would be so easy; I simply just walk behind it and I can guide it with one finger if I wanted. It climbs hills and that's important since my front yard is on an incline. I have a pretty good size yard and I can finish in less than an hour. With my old mower I had to take atleast 3 breaks because I would be so tired. I wish I had this mower long ago. Oh yeah it is easy to assemble; just unfold the handle and it comes with a small container of oil. Unfold the handle, fill with oil and gas and adjust the height you want your grass cut at. Mine came set up for mulching although you can attach the bag if you like or open side chute. Great mower!

We had trouble with our old 8 year old self propelled mower. My husband said he'd fix it and then he went out of town. This was such a great bargain that I ordered it online. No shipping or taxes. Got it 2 days later. My 11 year old can even mow with this one and it pulls him behind it. I don't know how long the self-propelled part will hold up, but for the money I could get one in a couple of years to replace it if it does stop working. I hope that doesn't happen, but I guess they make them to break and be replaced in a couple of years.

I've used this mower for about a month now. So far I'm very pleased with it's performance. I've tried it in both mulching and bagging mode and it works well in both modes. The bag is a bit of a hassle to get on and off cleanly so I'll mainly use it in mulching mode. I haven't used the side discharge mode, but the attachment was sent quickly when I registered and requested it online. The mower had a couple of minor cosmetic defects, probably from shipping damage. But it's a mower so I'm not too worried about it.I was trying to decide between this and the model without self-propel. I have a small lawn and didn't think I would really need it. Now I'm glad I went with a self-propel model. These mowers are heavy enough that the self-propel comes in handy, particuarly if you have even a slight incline to deal with. The mower almost always starts on the first pull for me, even when the pull is kind of weak. The only time it's required two pulls is on a cold start. Warm starts always take one pull, which is good because the engine is killed when you have to let go of the handle to move something out of the way. Assembly out of the box is not very hard and requires no tools. The only problem I had was that the plastic pieces on the rear wheel height adjustment levers were pushed down too far causing the adjustment not to lock. The only thing I wish the mower had is a handle that folds for storage. But that's pretty minor. I think it's a great value and highly recommend it.

So far so good! Mower starts on the first pull every time. Good power, and makes the lawn look nice. My only complaint is I ordered this mower based on the picture. If you notice, the wheels appear to be more rounded....this gives you less surface area on the grass, allowing the mower to turn easier. I received flatter wheels, and while it's easy to maneuver, it's not as easy as lawn boy mowers I've used before with the more rounded wheels.
