There are a couple of good tunes, but a level of inspiration in the playing that could lift them is not there.

Artists producing their own work is a situation fraught with danger - there is just not enough perspective on what really works and what doesn't. On one of the good tunes, "So In Love", Janice Dempsey has a nice voice but her diction is lacking. The...

5.0 out of 5 stars A candlelight set!, June 4, 2006
This review is from: 107 In The Shade (Audio CD)
Alex Bugnon exhibits a high level of creativity and playfulness throughout this work, plenty of suggestive and smooth pieces, but signed with a very personal style. 107 in the shade, for instance, initiates with an exotic melody played in accordion. His French roots are shown in the first two tracks. Elegance and brightness would be the most appropriate terms to describe this notorious CD.

So if you additionally consider there is not minor track, the recommendation is almost an invitation to acquire this interesting album plenty of joyful inspiration and creative rapture.

This is really my first incursion around this young talent, but keeping in mind the rest of good positive reviews, we are in front of another brilliant finding.

The background vocals by Rahni Song are good, but Janice, who is a co-writer with Rahni and Alex, is ultimately the weak link on this track. And it looks like Alex, as producer and co-writer with her, was just too close to the situation to step back and fix it.

This cd is titled 107 Degrees In The Shade, but nothing is catching fire in the music.

You are unlikely to "dance" to this music, BUT you sure will be inspired, feel relaxed, get a sense of happiness. I think that's one great think about music without lyrics, one pretty much gets what they want from just listening.
