I've just replaced a Dahua 1.3 megapixel (720p) with this Dahua 2 megapixel (1080p) indoor/outdoor dome for comparison. You'll want some of these in areas that require more detail. See my 1.3 megapixel video review using Amazon keyword "Dahua" or click my username for other reviews.

If you're new to IP cameras, this one is basically a tiny computer with a built-in camera, enclosed by a weatherproof metal ball. You could power it with a 12v adapter from your old Linksys router. Better yet, get a Power Over Ethernet (POE) switch like this one: TP-LINK TL-SF1008P 10/100Mbps 8-Port PoE Switch, 4 POE ports, IEEE 802.3af, 53W. You could use this switch to power four cameras and use the other four ports to feed a computer, a network video recorder, a network printer or a bridge radio to beam these camera feeds wirelessly from your garage to your house.

This IP camera has its own web server, meaning you can login to it remotely from other internet-connected devices and view your feed. If you have an Amazon Kindle Fire or other Android device, get IP Cam Viewer Full: IP Cam Viewer Full. If you buy it from Amazon, you only need to pay once ($4) and it's available to all of your Android devices that are linked to your Amazon account. We have it on Kindles, Samsung Galaxy tablets and HTC smart phones. There's also a version for iPhones in your app store.

If you'd like to watch and record feeds on your computer, use Blue Iris Pro:

Clear, sharp picture. I used Blue Iris software (which I highly recommend), so I cant comment on the free software that comes with the camera. I have the camera connected via P0E and has been performing well. Excellent value!

I have had this just over a month. For the first two weeks it was working fantastic. Then suddenly anytime the IR LEDs would turn on I couldn't view it anymore. The screen would flicker and show multiple colors until eventually it wouldn't show anything on the web client, blue iris, or the android app. Now today it just won't let me go to the web gui at all. Tried upgrading the firmware and rebooting multiple times. Just a brick attached to my ceiling now and no option to get it replaced.

I ordered two cameras. Each camera has a different version and when I tried to get the firmware for it it was nowhere to be found. I would put 5 stars if I can have the fimware upgrade. The one with a lower version is not working properly.
