This is THE wacom alternative!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was an avid Wacom user for almost 5 years before I bought this. I'm a college student, and although performance takes precedent over price, I'm not exactly able to pull $300 out of thin air for a new tablet. This Monoprice tablet is the absolute best of both worlds. I used an Intuos3 for years before it gave out on me. Instead of dropping more than I pay for rent on a new Wacom, I saw this lil betty. Comparable to an Intuos2, this tablet had everything I needed spec-wise:
1024 lvls of sensitivity, large active area, programmable hotkeys, and a low response time. I figured 'why not? It's only 50-60 bucks. Worse case, I send it back.' I'm very happy that I went with it. I can say without a doubt that this is one of the best Value vs. Price purchases I've made in the last few years. It may not be an inutos4 or Cintiq, but this is by far the best value product you can get in the graphics tablet market right now. P.S. The pen has a AAA battery in it, which makes it marginally heavier than an Intuos3 pen, which I like because of my larger hands. It helps me make smoother pen strokes as well, though I understand everybody's preference is different.

Bamboo Killer!,
By So in the spirit of writing a fair and balanced review, I'll try to point out a few negative points about this tablet. First off, there's the battery needed for the pen that I already mentioned. Not a big deal. The manual is full of broken "engrish", obviously translated by a non-native english speaking person. But seriously, if you can't figure out how to install this tablet without reading the manual, you're a moron. Insert disk, install drivers, plug tablet into a USB port; in that order. Let's see, what else? I guess the USB cord, being only 5 feet long, is a tad shorter than I'd like. Since I like to lay on the couch while I draw, the cord length forces me to use the USB port on the front of my computer. Seriously people, I'm really trying to come up with cons for this thing. Its a widescreen format so I guess you might run into problems if you're trying to use this with a 4:3 monitor. The button on the pen (used as a right mouse button by default but programmable to whatever you want) is in a slightly awkward spot. The Pros: -Cost (less than $50 shipped) -1024 pressure sensitivity levels -10"x6.25" active area -4000 LPI resolution -200 RPS report rate -16 programmable screen shortcuts -solid build quality The Cons? -pen needs a battery -manual isn't well written -cord is 5 feet long (do other tablets have longer cords?) -button on pen is awkward -doesn't have the name "Wacom" on it (that WILL be an issue for some people) So unless you're a professional graphic artist who needs all of the fancy features of the higher priced tablets or you're dead set on spending $200 just to get the Wacom name, there really is no reason not to buy this.

Great tablet for most uses.,

This review is from: 10X6.25 Inches Graphic Drawing TABLET (Personal Computers)
Easy to install, great software and options. Sensitive to a wide range of pressures. I would buy it again most likely, because it really does work well.
issue: the pen - for several reasons. 1. installing the battery in the pen. it's a very flimsy holder without the pen case surrounding it. you have to carefully peel back the rubber grip before you can slide the top of the pen off to install the battery. and try not to bend the battery contacts in doing so. the battery contact will bend and possibly snap off if you're not careful. and if it's bent, it won't make good contact and the pen won't work. the top of the pen has a groove on the inside for this metal contact to slide back into. if it's not lined up exactly, it won't slide on right, and again, you bend the contact. Just go slow and be careful, and once the lid is back on, it's fine. 2. if the pen is anywhere in the vicinity of the pad, and you're not using the pad at the time, you will have trouble with your mouse. keep the pen away from the pad when not in use. 3. there's a holder pictured for the pen. it doesn't come in the box. minor issue: the plastic sheet that you're supposed to be able to slide papers or pictures under to trace is extremely difficult to lift the edge up. It's such a tight fit around the edges, you almost have to bend it to get the edge up enough to put something under it. I imagine it will be easier once it's used a few times. Overall, 5 stars for usability, 4 stars for hardware quality
