4.0 out of 5 stars "I've got a Fog in my Throat", June 21, 2005
This review is from: 10th Avenue Freakout (Audio CD)
source: www.alternativemalta.com

Ah this is quite an interesting album. If described in a nutshell I'm sure it would be rampant eclecticism. One minute sound collages, the next Beck-like hip hop, turn your head again and it's folktronica.

And that is precisely what the world of Fog (aka Andrew Broder) is like. While his previous album "Ether Teeth" was more experimental, this latest focuses more on melody and song structures.

This is seen on tracks like `Can You Believe it?', `The Rabbit' and `Hummer' (off the EP of the same name).

But something is lacking. I get the feeling that this album wants to go deeper into melody but there is something holding Fog back. Certainly the sound (ish) collages like `The Poor Fella' and the brilliant closer `The Hully Gully' are just as great and they complement the flow of the album. But one has the feeling that it could go just a little bit further. However don't let this stop you from investing in this album for there is a hidden charm, and its detailed yet sparse production is fascinating. With a little bit more fine-tuning album number four this will be fully realized.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album, silly "tags", March 7, 2009

A great release from Broder, more melodic and lyrical than the self titled Fog, which is more experimental. If you like the album I would suggest Ether Teeth as a great companion. One thing I would really like to disagree with though, is Amazon's "tags" for this album, some people are saying that this is "religious music", "metallica", "disco music", "new age" and other completely ridiculous things. I'm sorry, but are people listening to anything before they add a tag? I would suggest: mellow, lo-fi, experimental, quirky etc. etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars sweet., June 2, 2005

Came at this one via Hymie's Basement, which drops my jaws. This one's nearly as good and very similar in tone. Some surreal lyrics here, all wrapped up tight in odd sounds, beats, brass, and samples (I think).

Buy it. Buy anything LEX puts out. You'll be a better man or woman for it. Promise. ;)

Can we have Hymie's Pt. II now? Pretty please?
