5.0 out of 5 stars Sensational
Some outstanding performances by the Brecker brothers, Marvin Stamm, Bill Wartrous and super drummer Steve Gadd. All the tracks "cook". There is something new every time you hear each song. Excellent variety. I wish there were more tracks.

4.0 out of 5 stars The pat williams that you remember- almost, March 8, 2002

If you liked his early albums- like Shades of Today and Think, you'll like this one. It's different- every collection he does almost always is, but you can see his genius shining through as you listen, his trademark instrument mixes and the sense of humor that maybe made him a little too far out for some jazz purists.

It's just too bad that Pat (or Patrick as he prefers now) never really caught on, even though his music is everywhere. If you are a fan- get this CD before they all disappear.

5.0 out of 5 stars To me, it's a powerhouse., January 8, 2006
This review is from: 10th Avenue (Audio CD)
I once read that this album was a "live studio" album. While I'm not sure exactly what that was meant to portray, it made me realize what I felt about it - it feels like a live performance. If this was a concert, of course he'd start with a piece like '10th AVENUE' and follow up with 'STILL CRAZY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS' Then he'd slow it down with something like 'HER SONG' Okay, that's enough quiet stuff, let's get back to some whup-ass - a version of 'NEW YORK STATE OF MIND' that Billy could only dream about. Lord, lord, I miss Nat Adderley, especially when I hear 'JIVE SAMBA' Do you think it was Chuck Loeb's idea to include 'THE CHANT'? Perhaps a little tribute to his obvious mentor, Wes Montgomery? And, finally, McCartney's 'MULL OF KINTYRE' leaving us panting, screaming, dying for more, More, MORE - ENCORE! ENCORE! Williams' genius is so well displayed here - in the charts, in the direction, in the performance. Why was there never a follow-up? He said, "Let's do it again...I'll bring the charts." Why didn't he?
